The FlipBot is an educational tool used by Liter of Light to teach kids and adults about simplicity of design, circuitry and how a little light can make make a huge difference to those who don't have any.

Liter of Light is a global, grassroots movement that uses inexpensive, readily available materials to provide high quality solar lighting to people with limited or no access to electricity.

Liter of Light has installed more than 350,000 bottle lights in more than 15 countries and taught green skills to empower grassroots entrepreneurs at every stop. Liter of Light’s open source technology has been recognized by the United Nations and adopted for use in some UNHCR camps. Liter of Light is the proud recipient of the 2015 Zayed Future Energy Prize and a winner of the 2014-2015 World Habitat Award.

Step 1: The Parts



1. Lid
2. Red Wire
3. Black Wire
4. Binder clip
5. LED (3v) - slow color changing :)
6. Tilt switch
7. 3v Battery
8. Bread Board
9. Jar
10. Electrical tape


Step 2: Bend Those Wires

Step 3: Red on Positive (+)

Use the tape to hold it firmly in place

Step 4: Black on Negative (-)

Wrap it all up with the tape

Step 5: Clip Those Wires on Tight

...and then remove the little metal wings (save them to change the battery)

Step 6: Bend the Wires Over

Step 7: Attach Your Battery to the Bread Board

One row becomes Positive (+) and one row Negative (-)

Step 8: Add the TILT Switch

...a little metal ball inside connects the wires

Step 9: Let There Be LIGHT !!

Pay attention here.....LEDs have a (+) and a (-) wire

Long wire = (+)

Short wire = (-)

Step 10: Almost There....

Stick the circuit into the MIDDLE of the lid

Step 11: Give the Gift of Light
