Introduction: Long Term Water Storage

The first thing off the shelves in the advent and aftermath of a disruptive event is bottled water. Clean water must be part of your family’s emergency preparedness plans.

Recommendation for drinking and cooking water per person per month:

Drinking: 15 gallons of clean water for drinking per person per month.

Cooking: Freeze-dried food uses 3/4 to 1 cup of water to rehydrate.

Recommended: 7.5 gallons of cooking water per person per month.

Total of drinking and cooking: 22.5 gallons

This is roughly the size: L 22 x W 11 x H 30"

Hygiene: Grey water, not quality drinking water is fine.

Don’t forget drinking water for your pet!

Step 1: Water Preserver

  1. Water brick or other water storage system
  2. Water Preserver - 8 drops per gallon, extends shelf life of water to 5 years.
  3. Treats against bacteria, viruses

Step 2: Fill It Up!

  1. Put water preserver according to instructions into the container first.
  2. Fill up water container but leave a 5-inch space at the top.

Step 3: Seal Tight

Calculation:

3.5 gallon water brick = 7 bricks per person

About 22.5 gallons

Step 5: Don't Forget Your Buddy!

Don't forget to plan for your pets too.

Step 6: Container Storage

  1. Disperse your water storage containers throughout the house.
  2. Dark places are better, no direct sunlight.
  3. Do not store ALL your water reserves in one place.
  4. Why? In case part of your home becomes inaccessible or hostiles try to steal your reserves.
  5. Sleep in peace knowing you have prepared.
