There is this LOOP LACING LOCKtechniquethat can be used in a
number of different lacing patterns to insure a tight and snug fit
anywhere along the eye row of your shoe, depending on where your laces
seem to be slipping.

Is there a benefit to this?
Reply 13 years ago on Introduction
I would think two:
provide additional friction from the additional string to string contact points resulting in reduced lace slippage, and;
increased mechanical advantage from the additional fulcrums or pivot points created when the string changes direction.
I've been using a modified form of this on the top few levels of hiking boots for years to fine tune and lock in the upper lace settings.
