Introduction: Lovable Lotion Bar
These creamy lotion bars are easy to make using just 3 ingredients; coconut oil, beeswax and essential oils. I chose lavender and tea tree oils.
Interestingly, all the ingredients are anti-microbial, supporting hand and body health. Simply hold until wax softens (seconds) and use as needed.
I like my lotion bars to be soft and creamy. If you prefer a harder bar then simply add more beeswax.
Cooking time is just 6 minutes if you use the microwave.
30 minutes if you prefer to use the stove.
Makes 15 in large-ish candy moulds. Enough for several months (depending on how many you give away).
NOTE: You can also use containers rather than moulds, and use your lotion straight from the container.
This recipe is soft enough that the lotion still works that way.
You will need...
1/4 c beeswax
1/2 c coconut oil
30-40 drops of your favourite essential oils
Heavy sauce pan (one with a heavier bottom) or microwave dish
Knife (for chopping beeswax)
Step 1: Preparation
Chop the beeswax into small chunks
Add chunks to the coconut oil
Place mix in saucepan or microwave safe bowl
Step 2: Heat the Mixture
1. Melt the mixture.
Microwave, heat for 30 seconds and let sit for 1 minute. Repeat until everything is melted. Takes around 6 minutes
Heat over a low to medium setting in a heavy pan. Takes around 30 minutes.
2. Add 30-40 drops of your chosen essential oils.
3. Stir to blend.
**Any impurities in the beeswax will sink to the bottom. You can scoop them out or just leave them there and not use the last little bit of mixture.
Step 3: Pour Into Moulds or Containers
Spoon into your chosen moulds or containers and let cool until the wax is solid.
You can place them in the fridge or freezer to speed up the process.
Step 4: Using and Storing
Pop the lotion out of the mould.
I store mine in the fridge or freezer until needed, leaving one at room temperature to use.
Simply hold until wax softens (seconds) and use as needed.
