Step 1: Step 1: Template

The first step for making a cat photo holder is to get a template for a cat. You can search up "stretching cat silhouette or template" to get what you need. Then you would print this out in the size you would want it.

Step 2: Step 2: Prototype

The next step is to make a cardboard prototype to see if you would like the look of it and the function is good. First, you should draw out the template onto a piece of card board then cut it out with a Stanley knife. If your piece is going to be thick cut out a few templates. Then, because it is a photo holder you cut straight slits in the back. A good idea is to print out some photos and see if they fit and look good on the cat.

Step 3: Step 3: Designing Real Wooden Piece.

Now that you have done a prototype and you like it it is time to draw your template on a piece of your chosen wood. You should pick a wood that is quite thick so it can stand up and so you can also paint it. I suggest using plywood. Once you have drawn it on you have to cut it out.

Step 4: Step 4: Cutting Your Cat Out.

To cut your design out you will need to go to the scroll saw. To use the scroll saw make sure you have glasses and ear muffs on for protection. Now, all you do is cut around the pencil lines you have drawn on until you have completely cut the cat out. Make sure you don't cut out the slits for the photos yet though. That will be last.

Step 5: Step 5: Sanding

Now, you will need to sand your cat and make it perfectly smooth and you don't have any sharp edges and it looks good. To do this you can go on an electric sander our just use a sanding block. I would suggest using a band saw to get your cat mostly smooth and then use the sanding block to finish it. You should use a rougher piece of sanding paper to get it mostly smooth and then use a softer sanding paper to get it nice. You need to have a smooth surface because it is much easier to paint and looks a lot better.

Step 6: Step 6: Painting

Now, you can be creative and paint your cat any colour you want. I painted mine a gold colour with red, white and pink spots and stripes but you can do anything you want. Just make sure you don't have any bits that don't have paint on them and try to make the painting smooth and nice.

Step 7: Step 7: Slits

Once you have let the painting dry you can cut the slits for your photos. To do this just go on the scroll saw again and cute a few straight lines and test if some photos can go in there.

Step 8: Step 8: Finished!

Now, your project is done! Make sure you like it and then you can take it home and put it in your room!
