Introduction: Magazine Beads YADI

Mag beads are a great (and pretty) way to recycle your old magazines. Most people have at least one magazine they don’t want or don’t know what to do with. There is only one solution to this problem; Mag Beads. Mag beads are a great way to reuse old magazines!

Step 1: Supplies and Tools

You need 11 things to make the beads. They are…

  • Magazines (obviously)
  • A ruler to make lines to show where to cut the beads
  • Something to write with to draw the beads and to show where to cut
  • Scissors to cut the beads
  • Glue to make the beads
  • Toothpicks to form the beads
  • Mod Podge to make the beads shiny
  • Styrofoam to let the beads dry on
  • A brush to put the glue and Mod Podge on
  • A paper plate to put the glue and Mod Podge on

Step 2: Cutting

Get your magazines out and start making a long triangle using your ruler and pencil. Then cut.(for smaller beads, draw and cut the bottom part of the triangle thinner or do the opposite for big beads)

Step 3: Roll and Glue

Get out the glue, mod podge, paint brush. Roll the magazine triangles onto the toothpick big side first.

Paint the glue on the end of the triangle after rolling up. Then cover it in mod podge and stick the toothpick in the styrofoam. Repeat until all magazine pieces are used.

Step 4: Let Dry

Let the beads dry on the styrofoam overnight.

Step 5: Beads Ready

Take the beads off the toothpicks by gently twisting them and use them for bracelets, art, necklaces, and much more!

Step 6: Summary

When you are rolling the beads up, be sure to put enough glue on them so they don’t break. If one of your beads won’t come off the toothpick, you may have put too much glue on the toothpick and the bead. There sadly in the no solution to this problem so you can discard that bead.
