Magnetic Induction Levitation

Introduction: Magnetic Induction Levitation

About: Magnet Enthusiast

An addictive and fun way to levitate a magnet. Needs precision hand-eye coordination. Challenge a friend on who can have the longest levitation time.

Step 1: The Ingredients..

What you need:

1. two blocks of aluminum or copper. I would recommend at least 1 cm thickness. Aluminum is cheaper but copper works a little better.

2. Two neodymium magnets. One above and one between the blocks. The stronger the better. Grade N52 is the strongest commercially sold grade. In between the blocks I used three disc shaped grade N42 (the size of one is 20mm x 5mm) and in my hand I had six similar sized magnets with grade unknown (probably in the region of N35-N42) Together they are dangerously powerful.

3. Finally something between the aluminum or copper block. By trail and error you can find the best distance between the blocks. With this size of magnets 25 mm seemed to be effective.

Thanks for checking it out. Somebody should make this for real with sensors measuring the levitation time.
