Introduction: Magnetic Frame for Dibond Mounted Pictures
What is the problem?
Well, I must admit that I am one of those persons who are thinking that their pictures need to be displayed to the view of other but who can't take a decision on which one of them.
As I am part of the 1% wealthiest living being, I decided that photo paper was not good enough. Thus when I print my artwork, I go for the full dibond, acrylate monty. But this is still not good enough, so I want to frame them. With consideration for the victims of the crisis, I decided to cut my frame budget drastically by using only one for multiple pictures.
What is the mission?
- I want to display my pictures
- I want to avoid driving to a well know swedish shop to ruin myself in poor quality frames for each of my pictures
- I don't know what I want to see and how long I want to see it
- I need something able to handle 5mm of high tech material on top of a glass
- I want to see embarrassment in the feminine audience when I start explaining the story of this project as an ice breaker during a party
What do you need?
- A frame of good taste that is certainly not a 100µm thin sheet of white wood wrapped around and MDF formaldehyde sponge.
- An adhesive vinyl magnetic sheet
- An adhesive vinyl metal sheet
- A picture of an empty NYC underground wagon
- A picture of a former german steel factory
Total cost of the project:
- Equivalent time/salary of 0,003ms of M. Zuckerberg, mostly for the sheets.
- 30mn of your life

Step 1: Square Cutting Template
I decided to be square on this project...
I selected a 1:1 picture and used it to make a template of the area to cut on the sheets.
The template is 1cm shorter that the original picture to avoid any cosmetic surprise while positioning the picture on the frame. It makes it also easier to remove it.

Step 2: Cut!
Well, try to work properly and cut your squares:
1 magnetic for the front of the glass of each frame*
1 "metallic" for the back of each picture
As prices are similar you could switch what object get what kind of sheet. I am displaying the picture on other supports and the extra thickness of the magnetic sheet is not wanted.
*Free tip of the day! (send me 10€):
However, if you want to use your pictures on the fridge or other metallic surfaces by turning them into magnets, glue the metallic sheet on the glass of the frame and the magnetic sheet on the back of the picture.

Step 3: Center and Paste!
Avoid bubbles and wrong centering.
That's not rocket science here.

Step 4:
Put everything back in place and let the science happens...
If you have bigger pictures to hang, you have to increase the size of the contact areas according to a parameter calculated on the golden ratio and the gravity force at the location of the picture, but it a no-brainer situation.
You can very easily adjust the centering of the picture.
2nd free tip of the day! (send me 10€):
If you think that you are talented in composition, you can stick multiple areas on one big frame... Yeah.
Tada!
Gluonnement vôtre... I know, I changed your life today.
