Make Your Own Heelys (prototype)
Intro: Make Your Own Heelys (prototype)
Using this Instructable, you will learn how to make your own Heelys using tools and fail and error.
STEP 1: Gather Materials
For this project, you will need a shoe, a 3d printer, foam, skateboard wheels, 5/16 inch rod, foam sculpting tools, a computer or tablet, drill bits, drill, grinder, and hammer.
STEP 2: Design a Wheel Well
Using whatever 3d design app you'd like, create the plastic wheel well that will hold the skateboard wheel in place under the shoe. Now before you do this, get a rough estimate of what it is going to look like by sculpting it into foam. For this project, we used 123D Design in order to design the wheel well. This program was really easy to use and we got the correct measurements. We had to redesign our well many times because the skateboard wheel did not fit correctly.

STEP 3: Cut Hole in Bottom of Shoe
After designing your wheel well, you can now cut out the bottom of the show to allow the well to fit. Using a drill, cut a hole towards the back of the shoe of choice that can accommodate the well. It helps to have a bigger drill bit to get rid of more material.
STEP 4: Cut Up Axles
Using a grinder, cut up the axles to fit your desired measurements. After this, smooth out the rough edges by using a metal sander. Doing this will make sure that the axle will go into the bearing on the skateboard wheel and it will fit through the two hole in the well.
STEP 5: Hammer in the Axle to Wheel Well
STEP 6: Glue in the Plastic Wheel Well Into the Shoe
For the last step, glue the wheel well with wheel in to the hole.
STEP 7: Trial and Error
Fail, fail, fail, success. We could not show the final assembly because the 3d printer got jammed and we did not have enough time.

Aren't heelys supposed to click back into the shoe or something?

How tall is the wheel well you made for the 50mm wheel? In other words, how big does my outersole have to be to fit it?
