Make a Drawstring Backpack From a Pillowcase

These drawstring bags are easy to make and are very useful for school.

Step 1: What You Will Need

Pillowcase
Rope
Scissors

If you want to make your bag smaller than the pillowcase you will need:
A Sewing Needle
Embroidery floss

Step 2: Making the Bag Smaller

If you would like to make your drawstring backpack shorter than the pillowcase follow these steps. If you do not, then skip this step and go on to step 3.

At the closed end of your pillowcase cut how short you want your bag to be. Turn the pillowcase inside out and sew a running stitch through the two layers of the area pillowcase you cut. The stitch should be from one side to the other. Turn the pillowcase right-side out and your stitches will not appear.

Step 3: Cutting the Slits

Cut 1-inch slits 1/2 inch from each of the top four corners on the first layer of the pillowcase. (Front right, front left, back right, back left). If you cut slits through both layers of the pillowcase, your drawstring bag will not turn out right.

Step 4: Adding the Hole

Cut a small circle (or circle like) hole through both layers of the bottom two corners. The hole should be about 1/2 inch in diameter. 

Step 5: Threading the Rope Through

Take the rope and thread it through the front left slit. Once the rope is through the front slit on the right, thread it through the slit closest to it on the back of the pillowcase. Thread that rope through the last slit on the back and pull the rope, so you have 2 feet of rope. Cut the rope that was not threaded (all the extra that is probably on the floor) to match the amount of rope you pulled from the slits. Repeat  for the front right slit.

Step 6: Tying the Knot

Put one rope through the hole. Take the other rope and bring it next to the rope in the hole. Tie a granny know with them and make sure it's big enough to not go through the hole. Repeat on the other side.
