Introduction: Make a Powerful Electric Generator System at Home DIY
Hi!
In this instructable you will learn how to make a series magnetic generator system to double the generated voltage at the same RPM.
The advantage of this method is that you can get a higher voltage output and you don't need an additional converter to double the voltage to a value that is required by the loads.
The type of generators used here are permanent magnet DC generators with the output voltage of 110 volts each. These are brushed type generators.

Step 1: Mechanical Connections:
First what you have to do is take two identical DC generators and connect their shafts together with the help of a shaft coupler or you can also use a back to back drill chuck system with a Pulley in between as I have used.
*The advantage of having a back to back connected drill chuck system is that it can adapt to variable shafts with perfect alignment*
After you have done that, take a proper stand for both the Motors so that they are held together in place. If you don't have a stand, you can always use two vices to hold them still.

Step 2: Comparative Test:
As can be seen from the pictures above, i have conducted hand generation voltage test on a single generatorwhere I could generator maximum voltage of around 16V DC.
After that I conducted another test in which I electrically connected both the generators in series where i achieved a hand rotation voltage of 32 volts and the maximum rope rotation voltage of 160 volts.
*Rope Rotation = Increasing the generated voltage by wounding a thread around the pulley and then pulling it at a maximum possible speed.
So this test proved that I could increase the generated voltage at the same RPM by coupling 2 generators together with the help of drill chuck and Pulley system.

Step 3: Actual Load Testing:
Depending upon the output voltage of your generator system, you can use an inverter to operate your AC loads directly as i did.
I did some load testing on these generators and the results were incredible. They could easily light up a 100W bulb and a 3W LED Bulb together. That was because they could easily generate high voltage at a really low rpm.
You can also connect the two generators in parallel to increase the output amperes and decrease the voltage as required by your inverter system.
This system is always better than a single DC generator because it gives you an option to choose if you want a high voltage low current system or a high current low voltage system.
So guys, that was all about this instructable.
Thankyou!

how long will the energy last
Question 2 years ago
Is ThERE any reason why a person couldn't use a 12 electric motor to turn one Dc gen motor for 12v power? I live in my fifth wheel trailer and when my gensets were stolen, I was left with only 12v options for light and power. Now the days are too short to use my solar arrays effectively and the charge/discharge cycles are telling on my batteries.

what would happen if you used a stronger magnet

You can get higher voltage out of the setup, BUT the total wattage will never even be equal to the input wattage. Otherwise we would have no energy problems ever. The total voltage and current is always going to equal less wattage then the input wattage. As the saying goes, you can get something for nothing!

i believe we can also apply the same trick on small dc motors to generate higher voltage at low rpm.Gr8 Work

yes we can. :)
