Introduction: Make a Wooden Den Den Mushi From One Piece
Den Den Mushi is also called Transponder Snail which is a useful property from one of my favorite comics, One Piece. This time I gonna make a wooden one . I have also created a plan for this project and feel free to download if you want to make yourself one.
Plan available here: http://alpacastudio.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/denden-mushi_plan.pdf
Step 1: Material& Tools
Material:
- Ash, White 10cm*10cm (I glued two pieces together)
- epoxy
- wood glue
- boiled linseed oil
- paste wax
Tools:
- bandsaw
- wood lathe
- disc/ spindle sander
- drill press
- chop saw
- sandpaper
Step 2: Make the Shell
I cut a round piece with a bandsaw. Then took it on the lathe to make it perfect.
Step 3: Drill the Holes
There are several holes on both sides of the shell. I used a 25mm drill bit to make the large hole and 4mm bit to make the small one. Also, a hole is drilled on the top for button installing.
Step 4: Cut the Body
I print out the plan and stick it on the wood. Then I cut the body out by using different saws. To refine the shape, I use a spindle sander. (Actually, it's a drill press.)
Step 5: Add Details
Now it's time to add details to the Den Den Mushi. This time I decided to make all three pieces, the two eyeballs, and the button, at the same time. I turned the wood stick to 20mm diameter stick. Then make the two eyeballs and the button.
After that, I used some epoxy to glue all the pieces together.
Step 6: Finishing
Boiled linseed oil and paste wax are used here for finishing. The Den Den Mushi is done!
