What's more fun than making your own game of chess?

Step 1: What You Need?

- A block of wood
- Wooden lathe machine

A lathe is a machine tool which rotates the workpiece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing, turning, with tools that are applied to the workpiece to create an object which has symmetry about an axis of rotation.

If you are new to using the lathe machine, it's better to start by get help from someone who knows how too operate it and it'll be beneficial to view a couple of videos on the net too ..also work on the machine under guidance.

Step 2: Time for Some Lathing

Mark your block of wood with the desired cuts you want and start lathing. The time it will take in making this will depend on how skilled you are. 
Once you are done, you can do a little finishing with sandpaper too (if required). 

Next, make your complete game of chess and enjoy playing :)

Did you make those pieces on that lathe? That is a metal lathe, not a wood lathe. This instructable does not show how to actually make chess pieces or how to use a lathe.

Please consider adding more information, such as patterns, sizes, what turning tools to use.

Where did you get the patterns for the different pieces?
