Intro: Make Your Own Soda Pop! 3 Easy Steps!!!

I've seen these machines in the stores that advertise the ability to make your own soda pop flavors and carbonated drinks. But some of the machines run as much as $99 for the whole set up. This got me thinking. Isn't there an obvious and cheaper way to do this. This is what I came up with. Its my First inscrutable so let me know if it was helpful!

STEP 1: Buy Carbonated Water...

I said it was obvious.... buy a 2 liter of plain carbonated water, or soda...

STEP 2: Buy Concentrate...

The concentrates for these machines are not that expensive, and when you consider that you can mix and match em or make your soda as sweet as you want, its not a bad deal. 1 bottle of concentrate will make 12 liters of soda.

STEP 3: ENJOY!!!

There you have it. mix it by the glass or by the bottle, no need to by the soda machine, or the annoying CO2 cartridges, bottles, caps....whatever!

Better yet, any real juices are improved with a little fizzy wwater.

Good idea, I do this all they time with various syrups including Italian Soda syrups and when making an egg cream soda that is half milk, half carbonated water and some chocolate syrup to taste. Coke was originally made this way as well at soda fountains. They would take freshly carbonated water from their machine and add the syrup with a pre-measured syrup spoon and then stir it exactly 3 times, no more - no less, and there you had your Coke. Another way to go for the syrups is to visit your local soda distribution center and buy the syrup for your favorite sodas in one gallon jugs as opposed to the little specialty soda stream ones. Soda Stream used to be Soda Mate. I much preferred the Soda Mate machine to the Soda Stream and distributors used to sell the commercial Coke and Pepsi syrups in gallon jugs as well as their own syrups. Another fun way to go is to look up some of the old fashioned syrup recipes from the Soda Fountain era and make your own syrups. You could also get yourself an Old Fashioned Soda Water dispenser for your carbonated water but that costs about a hundred dollars up front and uses CO2 cartridges like those used in BB guns and CO2 whipped cream dispensers. Thanks for the instructable. This has been so common place for me and my life that I never even thought to share.

I think if you have a picture of the product made as your first picture, vs the ad to buy one you might get more people pulled into look at your instructable. :) Good idea with the carbonated club soda, how does it taste?

Good instructable. What ratios do you mix the club soda and water at? Also, do you add any regular water to the club soda/concentrate mix?

I will mix a tablespoon of the syrup into a 12oz glass of club soda. No water necessary. I bought club soda, you can also buy "carbonated water" although I don't know the difference is. Careful not to get "Tonic water" it has minerals and flavoring in it, and tends to be kind of bitter.
