Introduction: Make WARM Jammies From a Snuggy

What kid or adult doesn't want a nice warm pair of jammie bottoms to curl up on the couch in?  Making these jammies are not only SUPER easy, they are upcycled which makes them very eco friendly!  I love making recycled and upcycled things when ever I can.  The more we can save from going into landfills the better off we all will be.

This instructable shows how to make jammie bottoms and a short robe out of a snuggy but you can also upcycle the bottoms out of a fleece or flannel blanket or just use a piece of new material.

For this project you will need:
A sewing machine
thread (not necessarily matching, use what you already have)
scissors
elastic or a shoe lace
And about an hour for the entire project

Step 1: Ready Set GO!

1.) Fold the Snuggy in half, wrong sides matching.
2.) Take an old pair of jammies, using the size that you want to make, and place on the snuggy. Make sure there is at least 2 and a 1/2 inches at the top of the jammie bottoms to allow for sewing and then cut the fabric. Look at the pictures to pees how to place them on the Snuggy.   If you are making a child size pair of jammie bottoms you will have enough to make either an adult wrap or an altered child size wrap which is what I will be showing in this tutorial.  If you want to make an adult pair of jammie bottoms you will have enough fabric but you won't have eonugh for the wrap.

Step 2: Cutting the Jammie Bottoms

This part is a little confusing but if you refer to the sketch it is a little easier to understand. You will want to take the cut piece of fabric and fold the sides so there are 2 folded sides and 2 selvage edges, refer to the sketch.
Place the jammies on the snuggy with the straight side of the fabric lined up with the folded edges.  Cut as directed following the directions in the picture.
Be sure to line up the bottom of the jammies with the bottom of the snuggy.  This will prevent you from having to hem the new jammies!

Step 3: Sewing the Legs

Cut the fabric leaving 1 inch on all sides and 2 1/2 inches on the top.
Place wrong sides together matching all four of the sides.
Sew a 5/8 seam on both sides as shown in the picture.
Fold the pants right sides together like the last picture shows. Sew a 5/8 seam.  This will make the jammie legs.

Step 4: Sewing the Waistband

The next step will be to make the waistband.
Fold the fabric over a 1/4 of an inch and sew.  Refer to the picture.
Next fold over 1 /12 inches and sew according to the picture.
Turn the jammies inside out.

Step 5: Inserting the Drawstring

At this point is if you are know how to sew you would want to put in an elastic waistband.  You can also put a shoestring in and have a drawstring waistband.
The easiest way to get the drawstring though is with a safety pin.
Thread the shoelace through the safety pin like the picture shows.

Step 6: Put the Jammie Bottoms on and Smile!

Your jammies are OFFICIALLY done!
Now all you have to do is put these warm jammies on and relax.
The next part of the instructable will show you how to make the wrap.
Isn't the redhead cute?
I sure think so!

Step 7: Making the WARM Robe.
