Intro: Making a Gasket Scraper at Tech Shop Detroit

Here is a commercially available Gasket Scraper

STEP 1: Making the Scraper Head / Blade

Used a piece of flat sheet metal with a ground edge

STEP 2: Use an Old Screwdriver As a Tool Handle

STEP 4: Tack and Weld Blade to Flat Blade Screwdriver

For scraping gaskets from mating faces of engines and such, yeah?

wouldn't it be safer to weld a piece of metal to the screw driver before welding? in my experience holding something in pliers then grinding it can lead to flying metal.

that was meant to read weld before grinding.

Yes that is always the best idea. Although it is a flat piece and the grinding was done down and away from the edge. Not up and into the edge. We were on time constraints and we wanted each piece photographed before there were welded to show steps in pieces along the way. Thank you for your input. Greg
