Introduction: Making a Gear

Project Overview:

This project shows you basic tools in Tinkercad in order to make a gear.

Step 1: Add a Cylinder

Adding and resizing cylinder on the work plane.

Instructions

  1. Click and drag a cylinder onto the work plane.
  2. Change the cylinder dimensions to 35mm x 35mm x 4mm
  3. Stuck?

HINT:

Use the top white square to change the height

Step 2: Add a Box

Adding and resizing a box to the work plane.

Instructions

  1. Click and drag "box" onto the work plane
  2. Change the box dimensions to 45mm x 6mm x 4mm
  3. Stuck?

Step 3: Center the Box in the Circle

Moving the box into the center of the circle

Instructions

  1. Left click and drag to select both the cylinder and the box.
  2. Select "Adjust" on top right drop down menu
  3. Select "Align" from drop down menu. Click on the two middle dots to center.
  4. Once aligned, click the "x" on the bottom of the screen to close the align function.

Step 4: Add More Boxes

Add more boxes for the teeth of the gear

Instructions

  1. Select the aligned box
  2. Copy this shape by typing "ctrl" + "C", or clicking "edit" + "copy"
  3. Paste this shape by typing "ctrl" + "V", or clicking "edit" + "paste"
  4. Using the curved arrow, rotate this box within the circle 45 degrees
  5. Use the align tool again to center the new box
  6. Copy, paste, rotate, and align two more boxes

Step 5: Add the Hole

Adding a hole to the center of the gear

Instructions

  1. Drag and drop another cylinder onto the work plane. Do not resize.
  2. Drag and select every shape and use the align tool to center.
  3. Select new cylinder, then click "hole" in top right of the screen.

Step 6: Finishing

Finish the gear!

  1. Click and drag to select all shapes.
  2. Select "group" from top right menu
  3. You've done it! Enjoy your gear!
