Introduction: Making an Astable Multivibrator With Transistors

My previous instructable dealt with using the indispensable NE555 Timer IC in an Astable configuration. In this instructable we will also make an astable multivibrator, just without the IC but with 2 transistors.

Step 2: Get the Parts!

I know, I've entitled the step as "get the parts" although most of the parts required for the projects are general purpose, so you'll probably have them laying around like I did. The list is below:

  • 2x 470 Ohm Resistors
  • 2x 47K Ohm Resistors
  • 2x 10 Microfarad Electrolytic Capacitors
  • 2x 2N2222A NPN BJT Transistors
  • 2x LEDs
  • 2x Hands
  • Power Source (I'm using 5 volts)

Step 3: Schematic

I've included the schematic in the pictures. It came from build-electronic-circuits.com.

Step 4: Make It!

Now that you have everything ready you can make the circuit. Simply follow me in the video, or if you prefer, download the schematic and use that.

Step 5: Final Comments

You did it! The project is dead simple and cheap. It's ideal for a beginner to get used to the feel of transistors.
