Making an OTG From Old USB-Type Phone Charger

What is an OTG : USB On-The-Go, often abbreviated to USB OTG or just OTG On The Go is a serial communication bus usually a cable or L or T - shaped is a specification first used in late 2001 that allows USB devices, such as tablets or smartphones, to act as a host, allowing other USB devices, such as USB flash drives, digital cameras, mice or keyboards, to be attached to them.

What we need :

1.An old USB type charger (In my case Charger is not working).

2.Soldering Iron, wire and flux and basic Soldering - Desoldering skills.

Step 1: Removing the Plastic Case

Lets Start..

Removing the plastic case we get something like this :

Here in that casing the thing which is of our use is that female USB plug soldered on Charger PCB circuitry. Just put hot soldering iron to it and heat up the joining points of the plug first.

Step 2: Removing the Female USB Serial PORT

After that similarly desolder another the 4 connections, after desoldering properly we get something like this:

(Remember we need that metal strip connections for OTG so, don’t break it out)

At the other end remove USB Male serial plug by cutting out from USB cable.

Step 3: Time for Connections...

Just make out connections as shown in schematic.

Remember that pin 4 and 5 has to be shorted.

Step 4: Shaping and Making in Use

I had done this in L- shaped, you can solder it in any design you like, after soldering make the connections strong by using super glue OR wrap plastic sheet and heat it up to mould it in shape.

Connections ..OK

Now our USB is ready to work….lets check this out.

1.Using mouse on OTG Supported Android device.

2.Using Pendrive in OTG supported Android.
