Introduction: Matcha and Chocolate Turtle Cookies

About: I love cooking and baking goodies and sharing them with my friends and family.

Matcha and chocolate pair well together as they are both slightly bitter but the sugar brings out each flavour. Easily whipped up in 1 bowl then divided to add flavour. This recipe makes 9 turtles but can easily be scaled up to make more.

These cookies are so cute that you'll feel bad eating them...or not!

Step 1: Step 1: Ingredients

INGREDIENTS:

  • 95g sugar
  • 3g vanilla extract
  • 1 egg, about 50-55g

  • 165g all purpose flour
  • 7.5g cocoa powder
  • 6g matcha powder
  • 15g milk, for assembly

Step 4: Step 4: Baking Powder and Flour

Add in baking powder and all purpose flour and mix until just combined.

Step 5: Step 5: Cocoa Powder and Matcha Powder

Divide dough in two separate bowls (approximately 2/3 in 1 bowl and 1/3 in the other).

Step 6: Step 6: Wrap and Refrigerate

Wrap and refrigerate dough for 30 minutes until semi firm.

Step 7: Step 7: Oven and Baking Tray

Preheat oven to 160°C and prepare a baking tray with baking paper.

Step 8: Step 8: Chocolate Dough

Divide chocolate dough into 9 equal size balls with approximately 3cm in diameter.

Place them on the prepared baking tray spaced out with room to grow when baking.

Using a fork, flatten them in a hashtag design.

Step 9: Step 9: Matcha Dough and Assembly

Divide matcha dough into 9 equal size balls.

Divide and roll each ball into smaller balls of approximately 1.5cm (for the head) and 1cm (for the legs and tail) in diameter. The tail will be more of a triangle shape.

Using milk, stick the matcha dough to the chocolate dough.

Use a toothpick to make eyes.

Step 10: Step 9: Baking

Bake for approximately 15 minutes and let cookies sit on pan for a few minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Step 11: Step 10: Eating

Now it's time to eat them!
