Matchbox Camera

Intro: Matchbox Camera

To make this mini-camera, you'll need a box of matches, a used toilet paper tube, a pair of scissors (or an x-cut), a pen and some tape. (Be advised, this camera doesn't really take pictures!)

STEP 1: Instructions

Draw, using the toilet paper tube, a circle on one of the sides of the match box's outer box. Do the same thing on the inner box and cut out the circles using the scissors or x-cut.

STEP 2: Instructions

On the side of the outer box that wasn't used, cut a small rectangle centered with the circle on the other side.

STEP 3: Instructions

Take the toilet paper roll and cut it by half. These will be your lenses.

STEP 4: Instructions

Connect the lenses to the match box using tape.

STEP 5: Instructions

Finally, you can add details with a pen (and other materials to your liking).

STEP 6: Usage

We came up with this camera when we were kids, so it obviously doesn't work like a real one. The photos we took became reality through little pieces of paper we would fit on the inside of the match box, where we would then draw the moments we wanted to later remember. This is one of the possibilities of this mini camera, one we suggest to all those that enjoy drawing. 

STEP 7: Usage

The second possibility is to hold a real camera up to the mini camera's sights: it will create a pinhole effect. You can play with distances to create different environments and new experiences.

Have you thought about adding a pinhole to it so it can take real pictures? There are various things around the web about matchbox pinhole cameras and I think it would make a really nice addition to this project...
