Intro: Matzah Brei

Step by step on how to make one of my favorite Passover foods.

STEP 1: What You Need

3 eggs
3 sheets of matzah
salt
warm water
butter
2 bowls
1 frying pan
honey (to garnish)

STEP 2: Breaking the Matzah

You must break the matzah into one of the bowls.

STEP 3: Soak the Matzah

Once broken up, soak the matzah in warm water for 2-3 minutes until starting to soften.

STEP 4: Draining the Matzah

Bring the empty bowl next to the bowl of the soaking matzah. Grab handfuls of the softening matzah mix and squeeze the water out of it before placing it in the empty bowl.

STEP 5: Egg

Beat the eggs.

STEP 6: Egg and Matzah

Add the egg to the soaked matzah and stir. Let sit for 5-10 minutes depending on the size of the matzah chunks, until chunks soften considerably more.

STEP 7: Cooking

At medium heat, butter the frying pan. Pour matzah into pan and let brown for 5-7 minutes. Flip(careful) and left cook for another 5-7.

STEP 8: Serve and Garnish

Matzah brei is generally eaten in one of two ways: savory with salt, or sweet with syrup or honey. In this case, my room mate wanted sweet so we used honey.

This is also an incredibly cheap meal AFTER Passover, when you can buy boxes of matzo for next to nothing.  (I say this as someone's who's not Jewish, but cooks for someone who is -- if you observe Passover you'll likely be quite sick of matzo by then.)
A love this stuff1 My dad's been making it since I was a kid, and ita really good. except we call it matzoh FRY and make it by using larger pieces of matzoh (Like 1/4 of a whole piece) it's a great meal, year-round (and any time of day)
