Introduction: Hot Link Crust Meatlover's Pizza

About: I've always had a tendency to make things rather than buy. When your design aesthetic never seems to work with your budget you end up developing pretty good maker skills. I hope my little projects can inspire …

This pizza is the ultimate meatpie. Hot link cheesy crust, salami, pepperoni, spicy sausage and crunchy bacon sprinkles on top. You might as well call it the widowmaker. While this isn't your every day meal it certainly made for a fun Father's Day dinner. All the things I tell him not to eat in one pizza! He was a very happy camper.

Step 1: Ingredients

This pizza dough is my favorite quick recipe. I always use it and it has never failed me. You can also find pizza Dough in the deli of most grocery stores.

Pizza toppings-

  • Marinara sauce
  • Ground pork sausage, cooked and drained
  • Bacon, cooked and chopped
  • Salami
  • Pepperoni
  • Mozzarella
  • Hot links (5-6)
  • Thinly sliced cheese

Step 2: Making the Hot Link Crust

Roll out your dough on a round sheet pan about 2 inches wider than the edge.

Now you will roll the sliced cheese around each hot link as pictured. I used 1.5 cheese slices for each one.

Then place the hot links onto the border of the dough forming a circle. Wrap the edge of the dough around the hotlink and pinch it closed to the inside of the dough.

Using a sharp knife cut about 3/4"-1" slices through the crust/hot links all the way around the pizza. You will the twist each individual piece to the left so the hot link is facing up. Pinch and mold the dough as you go.

*This did not go as neatly as I imagined so don't worry if it doesn't look perfect at first. Pinch the dough in the spots where there are holes. When it bakes it will look great. :)

Step 3: Layering You Toppings

Now that your hot link crust is ready you can add your toppings. This is the order of my layers.

Marinara
Cheese
Salami
Cheese
Pepperoni
Cheese
Ground pork
Cheese
Bacon
Cheese

Bake at 375 for 20 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

*The hot links will drip a little so if are worried about that you might want to cook it on top of a sheet pan.

Step 4: Meatlover's Hot Link Stuffed Crust Pizza

This pizza may be too extreme for some but lemme tell ya, I was shocked at how delicious it was. Yes, it is not at all healthy. It serves no purpose other than to taste absolutely amazing. It's great for a special occasion but I know a lot of guys that would order this off a menu any day. The crust pulls off nicely so you can eat that separately and it also holds together so you can go at it the good ol' fashioned way.
