Introduction: Mega Sized Fortune Wall Art

About: I am a conceptual artist, and my DIY projects are mostly inspired by pop culture (movies, music, sports, TV). I mostly specialize in painting, graphic design, drawing, digital photography, performance art, and…

Many Chinese restaurants will be very happy about hanging these mega sized fortunes on their walls! This project was inspired by a similar project featured in the May 2016 issue of HGTV Magazine.

Step 1: Grab Your Materials

This project is very easy. All you need are...

  • a small paper with a fortune on it (when you first get a fortune cookie, open it up and save the fortune)
  • a large picture frame (I'm using a 10 x 12 inch frame)
  • a 12 x 12 inch piece of scrapbook paper
  • scissors
  • glue
  • X-acto knife (not pictured)
  • pencil (not pictured)
  • ruler (not pictured)
*Also, you will need your own home computer with a scanner, and photo editing software.

Step 2: Enlarge the Fortune

First, grab a fortune and take it to the computer. You want to scan it and save it on your desktop. Then, open up Photoshop or Pic Monkey, if your prefer, and enlarge it on a 8.5 x 11 inch document. Then, print it out.

Step 3: Cut and Paste

Now, carefully cut out the fortune and use some glue to stick it onto a piece of scrapbook paper. Then, use the back of your picture frame to cut to size. I find it best to use a pencil, ruler, and X-acto knife for a precise and even cut.

Step 4: Frame It

Now, all there's left to do is frame it! Perfect!

Step 5: Ready to Hang

Now, you can hang these up on your walls! You can do this project with any size that you want; be it 11 x 17, 8 x 10, or 10 x 12!
