Microwave Simple Syrup

Intro: Microwave Simple Syrup

I wanted to make a Frappuccino the other night (no coffee because it was night) and I realized I was out of simple syrup. I usually make jessyratfink's simple syrup, but I didn't want to take the time to make it on the stove. I thought, why can't I just make it in the microwave. So I did, and it worked, and it's pretty easy.

*I use this in all of my copycat Frappuccino recipes :)

STEP 1: Make It

Supplies:

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water

Method:

  • Mix together sugar and water. As you can see, I use a 1 to 1 ratio like jessyratfink .
  • Put it in the microwave for 3 minutes.
  • Take it out to stir it and check on it. After you stir it you might need to let it sit to tell if it is clear yet or not.
  • If it isn't done, throw it in for another minute. Repeat as needed until it is clear.
  • Let it cool, then store it in the fridge until you are ready to use it.

That's it! You're done.

omg just tried this and it is divine I know this is from years ago but its corona time and Starbucks has shut NIGHTMARE . Just finished mmy fiffth cup whoops thank you so so much
I'm glad this could help you out :) What do you use it for?

"no coffee because it was night" that excuse doesn't fly, it's always time for coffee.

I make gallons of this stuff each summer for Hummingbird Food. Just dilute it again 50/50 before loading the feeders. (So it ends up being diluted 4:1)

:-)

I think my family uses this for hummingbird food too! Lucky animals :)

I am a diabetic.

Can this be done with artificial sweeteners?

I'm not sure, I wouldn't see why not since artificial sweeteners are also meant to dissolve in hot water, but it takes quite a bit. Can it be purchased in such a large amount? It really is nice, if it works, for mixing into drinks since it is already dissolved. If you try it out, I'd love if you would share the results so we all know. You should even consider posting your own Instructable on it :)

Simple syrup is used in "Old Fashions". I'm going to try your method for my next drink.

You just put the "simple" in simple syrup! Is it crystal clear when it's done?

Thank you and it should be pretty clear. No cloudiness.

What a great recipe! There must be some place on the web that already has Torani's secret recipe - i'd get a bunch of their full bottles first, just to have the cool pour spout - lol.

Have a great day! :)

Their little pumps are very handy :) You have a great day yourself and thanks for checking out my Instructable!

I am better off using honey! But thanks anyway...

You made my day! No reason anymore to put off trying out your frappucino recipes that had me drooling all over my display y'day! If I may ask two additional questions: a). do you think one could use raw sugar instead of refined white? b). what are your thoughts on replacing the brand sirups with DIY-made (as a seasoned vaping-passionista i am excessively stocked in food flavours).
Thanks again for sharing your recipes, Kerstin
PS - a. i am rather new to this platform so if i am asking stuff that i could've found using a search option: sorry. pointers welcome & appreciated. b. English is not my mother tongue, i sound much nicer and more natural in German ;)

Thank you! I hope you do get to try out the Frappes :) a) I don't see why not, I think it just needs to be able to dissolve in water. b) I think you should go for it and try it! I use the Torani's simply because I don't know how to make them and I can get them for about $4.29 each at Smart and Final if I get more than 5 at a time :) If you come up with ways to make the syrups, you should post Instructables to share, I'd love to learn how to make them and I'm sure other people would too.

Happy to help with any more questions if you have them! Hope my answers help!

Yes, and add equal amount of brown sugar and a few drop of maple flavor and you have Maple Syrup!
