The most common complaint I hear from friends and family who wear dresses or gowns is that they don't have pockets, so I wanted to solve this complaint and customize a gown that I could wear.

Supplies

8 yards of stretchable fabric
Sewing Machine
Thread (same color as fabric)
Paper
Fabric Scissors

Step 1: Cut Bodice Patterns

Cut and put together the

center front bodice
side front bodice
center back bodice
side back bodice
strap

patterns from the Elderberry dress of Mood Fabrics according to your size

Step 2: Cut Skirt Patterns

Cut and put together the

front/back skirt
pocket

patterns from the Edith dress by Mood Fabrics according to your size

Step 3: Cut Fabric

Cut cloth according to the patterns above

Center front bodice (1 piece on fold)
Center back bodice (2 pieces)
Side front bodice (2 pieces)
Side back bodice (2 pieces)
Straps (2 pieces)
Front Skirt (2 pieces on fold)
Pockets (2 pieces on fold)

*if it's on fold, make sure to put the pattern on the edge so the resulting piece will be symmetrical

Step 4: Sew Bodice

Sew both side front bodices to each side of the center front bodice. Next, sew the side back bodice to each side of the piece. Sew the center back bodices to each side of the resulting piece. Sew the center back bodices together.

Fold ½’’ in at one end of the length of the strap, and then fold the whole strap in half, lengthwise. Sew the folds you made to keep them in place. Invert after done so that none of the stitches are seen.

Sew the straps into the middle of the center front bodice and the side front bodice.

Step 5: Sew the Skirt

Sew both front skirts together leaving space at the top for where the pocket will be. Line up and sew one edge of the pocket to each of the edges of both front skirts in the space you left unsewed.

Step 6: Sew It Together

Place the skirt right side out and the bodice inside out. Align the bottom edge of the bodice and top edge of the skirt. Sew the edges together
