Introduction: Milk Kefir - Natural Remedies

Hey,

In this instructable I'll show you how to make milk kefir with kefir grains.

Kefir have a lot of benefits, but I wouldn't enumerate them.

You can search the internet to find all of the milk kefir benefits.

It's easy to make and healthy.

I hope you like it, and have fun making it. :D

Step 1: Materials and Tools

Materials:

  • tbsp of kefir grains
  • glass of milk (fresh)
  • Jar
  • Cloth (or something like that)

  • Rubber band (optional)

Tools:

  • Glass
  • Strainer
  • Bowl
  • Teaspoon

*WARNING: DO NOT USE METAL WITH KEFIR!

Kefir grains will die in contact with metal. Use plastic, or glass.

Step 2: Prepare for Fermentatio

Put the grains in the jar, and then fill it with milk.

Then cover the jar with cloth (you can put the lid on, but don't close it). Now let it ferment.

Taste will be effected by two things:

  1. Time you let it ferment (12 hours for a thinner, sweeter kefir, 48 hours for a thicker, sourer kefir)
  2. Temperature (if it's warm the kefir will ferment faster)

*Note: I let it ferment for 24 hours.

Step 3: When It's Redy

When fermented enough and it looks like on the photo (it become thicker, and whey started to separate), we can proceed with the other steps.

Step 4: Straining and Repeat

Put the strainer in the bowl, and then pure content of the jar in strainer.

*Note: Wash the jar immediately when you pured it, because you need to put kefir grains somewhere when it finish straining.

*Note: If you stir it with teaspoon, it will strain faster (and thicker stuff will go through easier).

When its done straining, put kefir grains back in the jar, and repeat everything from Step 2 and so on...

Because kefir grains multiply fast, you can give rest of them (that u didn't put back in the jar) to someone.

Step 5: Consummation

Now, liquid you get, you can store it in fridge for later,

or pure it in glass, stir, and then drink it..

*Note: When you done, wash it immediately.. Later it will be much more difficult.

I've spilled a little so there is less than it should.

Step 6: THE END

*Note: If you want to take a break of kefir for few days, just put the jar (with milk and kefir grains) in the fridge.

I hope you like it and enjoy making it.

Please comment if have some compliments or criticism.

THANKS for watching. :D
