Introduction: Mini Containers From Bottle & Jar Caps
What? You don't save the plastic lids from bottles & jars? What were you thinking? Check the recycling. Now. How else to carry a few vitamins, or cough drops or whatever, without a whole lot of bulk or the risk that the tinfoil will open in your pocket?
Step 1: Gather Supplies
Vitamin bottles, my favourite recyclable! Those neat snap open lids, the opaque containers! We go through a fair amount in our house, so I almost always can find one. The smaller inner cap can be from a gatoraid or other softdrink bottle or in my case, the over the counter antihistamines I take for allergies. You'll also need a plastic lid, like from a yogurt container. The only tools you'll need are a pair of kitchen shears, a nail file and some super glue.
Step 2: Fiddle, Snip, Glue!
Find a smaller lid that fits inside the vitamin bottle lid.
Pick what colour edge you want from the lids you have available.
Cut a long strip off the edge of the yogurt/ icecream lid.
Depending on the depth of your 'edging' lid you may have to trim it to fit.
This thin plasic shim is what holds the other tops together.
Once you have test fit the edge, pull about 1/3 of it out, with the snap lid open, drop in a few drops of superglue in the gap where the edging will go, replace edging. Taking care of course not to get glue on your skin, read all cautions, wear a helmet . . . .

Step 3: Upgrade!
Add a loop to your container for attaching to . . .
Extra supplies, 1/4 " elastic, small safety pin
Before glueing, Use the point of your kitchen shears to 'drill' a hole in the bottom of your container. (Of course you can use a more advanced tool for this, but some of us still consider rocks tools) remember not to cut off any digits, or create any biohazards
Use your nail file to poke both ends of a 2" x 1/4" piece of elastic into this hole, the loop is on the outside.
Glue the 2 cut ends together, after the glue is dry, run a tiny safety pin through the elastic to keep it from pulling out.
I glued the pin down too, don't want those small inanimate objects getting loose, wily 'lil critters!
