This puzzle box is extremely easy to make, using only a few basic LEGO pieces. Solving it only takes three steps, but your friends and family will have a tough time figuring it out! Everyone will love to try and solve this amazing puzzle!

Supplies

For this puzzle, you only need 9 Lego pieces. They are shown in the image above, but I will list them here.

  1. 2x2 piece with studs
  2. 1x2 piece with studs
  3. 1x2 plate without studs
  4. 2x2 plate without studs
  5. 1x1 brick with studs
  6. 1x1 plate without studs
  7. 1x1 round stud
  8. 1x1 round stud
  9. Lego money piece (You can use any 1x2 without studs as a replacement. This will be the piece that you try to remove from the puzzle box.)

You can use any color for all these pieces.

If you are new to LEGO and don't have any of these pieces, go to Bricklink to buy these parts for a cheap price.

Step 1: Begin!

Let's get started! First, we will make the base of our puzzle.

For this step, we will make the base of the puzzle box. Get the 2x2 piece and place it in front of you. Next, place the 1x1 brick onto the 2x2. Now get the 1x1 without studs (the tiny square piece) and put it next to the 1x1 brick.

Step 2: Continue the Base

The next step will be to place the 2x1 (with studs) in the space left on the base.

Keep going, we only have 3 pieces left!

Step 3: Add the Money to the Puzzle

Now we are going to add the money piece and the dot. The money will go on top of the 2x1 and the studless 1x1, and the dot will go in the remaining space. I know it sounds confusing, but you can look at the picture for guidance.

Step 4: Build the Top

Move the piece you've been working on out of the way for the moment.

You should have three Lego pieces left: a 2x2 without studs, a 1x2 without studs, and a dot.

Flip the 2x2 over so the flat side is on the bottom. attach the dot upside down to one of the corners of the 2x2, as shown in the picture. This is the piece that will go on the top of the puzzle.

Step 5: Top It Off!

You've reached the final step! Nice job so far.

Now you have to get the remaining 2x1 and place it on the large piece we were working on. It should overlap the money piece and the round stud.

Now the only thing you have to do is get the piece from the previous step and attach it to the top of the puzzle so that the stud at the corner fills the gap (again, look at the picture for help).

Step 6: Finished!

You're done!

Well, almost. You have to learn how to solve it before you can challenge your friends.

Step 7: Try to Solve the Puzzle

Can you solve the puzzle box? Take a minute or two to try it, then move on to the next step.

I will teach you how to solve it.

Step 8: Solve

To solve the puzzle box, we must try to remove the cash from inside the puzzle.

First, push out the small red piece above the green piece.

Next, push the money piece away from the puzzle like you did with the red piece.

Step 9: Solve (Continued)

Now pull the money piece upwards, freeing it from the puzzle.

Slide it out, and you're done!

Step 10: Congratulations!

You just built and solved your very own LEGO puzzle box!

Have fun challenging your friends and family to solve this mini puzzle.
