Introduction: Mini Wind Turbines

Renewable energy comes from renewable sources such as wind. In this project, I aim to encourage people to bike more often and to teach children about renewable energy and the power available from nature by making mini wind turbines. It comes in two versions, one that functions as a bike accessory and one that is a cute toy for children.

Step 1: Materials

For either version:

Procure one red LED, one Tamiya motor, and one fan blade.

A red LED costs around 5 pesos in Quiapo

Tamiya motor costs around 60 pesos in Quiapo

A fan blade can be procured from CDR King by buying USB Fans or CP Fans

Step 2: Laser Cut

For the bike accessory version:

Laser cut the file "bike accessory" on a 2mm thick acrylic and the file "foam belt" on EVA foam

For the turbine toy version:

Laser cut the file "Turbine Toy" on a 2 mm thick acrylic

Step 3: Attach Motor

For either version:

Insert the Tamiya motor in the part with the huge hole (it should be friction fit)

Step 4: Attach the Other Parts Without the Hole

For either version:

Attach the other parts except for the part with the small hole (it should be friction fit)

Step 5: Attach the LED

For either version:

Insert the red LED into the part with the small hole (it should be friction fit)

Step 6: Complete the Shell

For either version:

Attach the last acrylic part to form the shell (it should be friction fit)

The LED should connect with the parts of the motor (soldering is optional)

Step 7: Attach the Fan Blade

For the Turbine Toy version:

Congrats! You now have a Mini Wind Turbine Toy! :)

Step 8: Attach the "T" Part to the Foam Belt

When attaching the foam belt to the bike handle, make sure a part of the "T" is left to be attached to the hole of the shell of the turbine

Step 9: Insert the "T" Joint Protruding From the Foam Belt Into the Shell

Congrats! You now have a Mini Wind Turbine Bike Accessory! :)
