Intro: Mobile Phonebags

How to make simple reverseable mobile phone bags out of neoprene that will protect your mobile phone from rain and impact.

For one Mobile Phonebag you will need:

Materials
- 17x14cm piece of 3mm thick neoprene laminated with different colour jersey on either side (available from www.sedochemicals.de, Berlin/ Germany
- 2cm each (hooks and lashes) of 2cm wide velcoro
- about 2m of thread

Tools
- Scissors
- Sewing needle
- Ruler
- Pen and paper
(- Pliers)

STEP 1: Trace and Cut

Cut out the following stencil (as seen in picture) from a piece of paper.
The body is a 14x11cm rectangle and the bottom is a 3x6cm oval.
Trace the stencil to the neoprene and cut the neopren to shape.

STEP 2: Attaching Velcro

On the 14x11cm rectangle of neoprene mark following on the 14cm side:

edge /-----2.5cm-----/----2cm----/-----------5cm---------/----'2cm----/------2.5cm------/ edge

Fold the squares of Velcro and sew them on as seen in the pictures.
If the sewing gets tough you can use a pair of pliers to full the needle through.

STEP 3: Sewing Sides

Now sew together the 11cm sides of the neoprene rectangle.
Double the thread by threading the needle and tying a knot with both ends.
Start at the top, closest to the Velcro, this will be the opening.
Make sure to double stitch the first stitch and pull tightly after each stitch all the way down the side.

STEP 4: Sew on Bottom

Without cutting the thread from sewing the sides, continue to sew on the bottom.
Again, pull tightly after each stitch.
Stitch the last stitch twice and plunge the needle through the neoprene for 2, 3 cm and then cut the thread and it should hold.
Now that you've finished sewing, turn the Mobile Phonebag "inside-out" or just the other way around since there is no right side.
Straighten the stitches so that the layers of neoprene you sewed together now face each other. This gives it shape and makes the seams look much better.

How much does one plade cost? I looked on that page and it seems that only big companys can buy that. Can you please send me a little bit more information and the price you paid? Thank you
you mean one sheet of neoprene? It depends on thickness and what materials you choose for lining. The neoprene I ordered was 6m thick and had jersey(standard) lining on either side. A sheet of this, which is about 3 square meters, cost about 40 Euro + 8 Euro shipping within Europe. Shipping to America costs a lot more, about 75 Euro. so if you don't live in Europe, it is probably best to find a different supplier. Surf shops often have leftovers from mending suits or might be able to order you a smaller amount when they put in a big order. Hope this was of help.
I live in Europe, but I will look for a cheaper solution, I think. Thank you very much!
very nice instructable, i should make one of these someday :)
