Introduction: Mom's Midwestern Lasagna

Growing up, My mom's lasagna was always my favorite dish. With my family being one which embraces Midwest culture and food preferences, the lasagna has always been meaty and cheesy. Here is how to make my mom's simple Midwestern lasagna.

Supplies

Ingredients

· 1 lb. raw hamburger

· 1 lb. raw pork sausage

· 8 oz. ricotta cheese

· 1 egg

· 1 24oz jar of Classico Pasta Sauce

· 1 8 oz box of lasagna noodles

· ½ tablespoon of minced garlic.

· ½ tablespoon of minced onion

· 1 ½ cups of each type of shredded cheese

Mozzarella

Garlic Jack

6 Cheese Italian

Required Equipment

· 9x13 pan

· Frying pan

· Colander

· Large pot

· Variety of mixing bowls

· Spatula

· Fork

· Aluminum foil

· Non-stick spray

Step 1: Preheat Your Oven

Preheat you oven to 350 degrees

Step 2: Cook Noodles

Bring water to a boil in a large pot and cook lasagna noodles as instructed on the package.

Step 3: Cool Noodles

Use a colander to cool noodles with cold water and set them aside for later use.

Step 4: Brown Meat

Put hamburger, pork sausage, minced garlic, and minced onion in a pan and cook on medium heat, stirring frequently with a spatula, until meat is thoroughly browned.

Step 5: Drain Meat

Use the colander to drain the grease from the browned meat.

Step 6: Make Meat Mixture

In a large bowl, mix the browned meat with the jar of Classico sauce. Then, set it aside for later use.

Step 7: Beat Egg

Crack an egg into a small bowl and stir it up with a fork until it is well mixed.

Step 8: Make Ricotta Mixture

Add ricotta cheese to the egg and stir up until the mixture is a uniform consistency, then set it aside for later.

Step 9: Put It Together

Layer all the ingredients in the 9x13 pan.

a. Starting on the bottom layer, put 3-4 lasagna noodles along the length of the pan.

b. Spread half of the meat mixture on top of the noodles.

c. On top of the meat mixture, put 3-4 more lasagna noodles along the length of the pan.

d. On top of the noodles, spread all the ricotta mixture.

e. On top of the ricotta mixture, spread the remaining meat mixture.

f. On top of the meat mixture, lay out another 3-4 lasagna noodles along the length of the pan.

g. On top of the noodles, put all the shredded cheese: 1 ½ cups each of Mozzarella, Garlic Jack, and Italian 6 Cheese.

Each layer should cover the length of the pan; the photo is for illustration purposes.

Step 10: Cover It

Spray aluminum foil with non-stick spray and cover the top of the lasagna pan with it.

Step 11: Bake It

Bake the lasagna in the middle rack oven at 350°F for 45 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F.

Step 12: Brown the Cheese

Remove the foil, then broil in oven until the cheese is golden brown.

Step 13: Eat It!

Remove the lasagna from the oven, cut into the desired number of pieces, and serve it.
