Introduction: Morse Code Key Connect With Computer
This is my 1st project, the Morse Code key connect with computer via USB
Step 1: Beginning
Prepared a computer mouse and open the case, remove the circuit board from mouse.
Step 2: Cover the LED
Use paper and tape to cover the LED on the circuit board to block the light signal transmitt to control IC.
Step 3: Soldering
Remove the left click mirco switch on the board by solder. And replace with two wires. You should soldering the wires to the "No" position of the board. After that, the other end of wires connect with the Morse Code key. (no polarity)
Step 4: Using With Computer
Connect the circuit board with computer via USB. Then you can use your own software or website to practice Morse Code transmission. I use this website for demonstration: http://boyslife.org/games/online-games/575/morse-code-machine/

What type of wires are we using to hook up the key to the mouse? Is it any particular type of wire? Thickness? Anything special to know?

Can you show us how to remove all the excess components from the mouse circuit board and cut down the board so we can attach it to the key?

Can we just diconnect the LED or would that render the mouse innoperable?

I am not sure of it because I never try to disconnect the LED only.

There is a website which has lots of old ham radio activists who no longer have their own systems, but communicate on channels there. Totally free. It has been a couple of years for me, don't remember the site, but it is alive and well.
