I really like the show ''Anne with an E'' so I decided to create the badge Mathew wins at the Fair. The ''Most Unusual'' badge! If you use the same color of fabric with the real badge it might turn prettier than mine. I didn't have that fabric though... Also, I did a lot of sewing for this project and I just realized that I could use hot glue instead for some of the steps... But sewing makes it look more elegant so...

Supplies

a medium-sized piece of cardboard
a diabetes
a pencil
a ruler
a pair of scissors
two pieces of fabric (about 40cm long and 6-7cm wide each) USE DIFFERENT COLORED FABRICS
a piece of fabric (could be light brown or yellow or any colour you like and matches) - in a square shape about 15cm wide
some cotton or cotton tabs
A marker for fabrics. I used the blue GIOTTO one. I bought mine from a local shop, you can find all the colors here.
A nice wide, white ribbon!
Sewing stuff... (a needle and a thread!)

OPTIONAL:

Hot glue gun
Hot glue
A pin for the back (the bigger the better)

Step 1:

Draw a 12cm diameter circle with your diabetes. Draw an 8cm diameter circle inside the first one. Now, draw a separate circle with a diameter of 6cm and cut it out.

Step 2:

Cut out the first circle too. Then, cut out a small ''pizza slice'' (about 2cm) and carefully cut the rest of the inside circle too as shown in the picture. When your ''C'' shape is ready press it down a bit so it will be more flexible.

Step 3:

Draw a circle with a diameter of 5cm and inside that draw a 3cm diameter one. Cut it out like the last one in a ''C'' shape.

Step 4:

Take your fabric strips and fold them in half. Sew them to keep them folded. Next step shows how to sew. You could use a stapler instead of sewing but the result won't be the same quality. You could also do both.

Step 5:

Make a knot at the end of the thread!

Do this process and then cut the end of the thread. Make a knot at the end again, and repeat every 5cm.

Step 6:

Cover your ''C'' cardboard pieces with the folded strips. Then close your ''C'' cardboards into circles as shown in the picture.

Step 7:

When you've closed both of your ''C'' cardboards sew them together (the bigger one at the back). You've made the ''frame'' of the badge.

Step 8:

It's time to make the actual badge now. Write the title of your badge (Anne's is most unusual) on your square piece of fabric. Be careful with the size of your letters -It shouldn't be huge. Take your last cardboard circle (8cm diameter) and put a middle sized cotton pile on it and cover it with your square fabric. Don't use too much cotton because it will look very big and don't use very little cotton because it will look weird.

Step 9:

Sew the back of the badge so the cotton won't ''escape''.

OPTIONAL : I also saw all around the badge because I thought it looked much better that way and it is more secure.

Step 10:

Once you've done that, check if your title on the back looks good -because mine didn't... That's because it's stretched. I wrote the title again, but BE CAREFUL with that!! You should make sure it's dry from the first time you wrote the title because if it's not the ink SPREADS...

Step 11:

Sew the badge on the frame or use hot glue to attach it.

Step 12:

You'll need to have two pieces of ribbon about 15cm-20cm each. Cut the two edges of the ribbons as shown.

Step 13:

Use hot glue to attach the ribbons on the back of the badge or sew them.

Step 14:

Almost finished! Use a pin at the back to make it more like an actual badge.

OPTIONAL : It looks better if you put something at the back before putting the pin but you'll have to sew a bit more! I made another cardboard circle (10cm diameter) and dressed it up with another piece of fabric. You could use hot glue to attach it on the back of your badge. If you do that make sure you've attached your ribbons first.
