Intro: Mountainboard Heelstraps

How to make heelstraps for you mountainboard. theese give you a more snowboard like feel.

STEP 1: Supplies

All you need for this is:
-Mountainboard
-Shoe
-Pair of new shoelaces (round)
-Duct tape
-Scizzors

STEP 2: Align Shoe

Put you foot (with shoe) in your binding, In the place you want it to be while riding. Slip you foot out and leave she shoe in.

STEP 3: Tying the Shoelace

Take the shoelace, and feed it through the hole, between the shoe and binding on both sides, looping it around the heel.

STEP 4: Tying the Shoelace (cont.)

OK, so now, you loop the shoelace tips back over the sides of the binding, and tie it in the back, just as tight as you would want for riding. Knot it 2-4 times, for added strength(you want this is to hold). Then cut off the extra lace behind the knot.

STEP 5: Starting the Strap.

Start by making a peice of duct take 11 inches in length. then fold it over itself, covering all the sticky parts. then cut it off the roll, and place between the heel and shoelace.

STEP 6: Tape the Laces Down

Now cut a strip of duct tape 5 1/2 inches, and put this over the shoelace and the ductape from the previous step.

STEP 7: Reinforcement

Now undo your binding strap and take the new heelstrap off. it should look like the pic below.
then reinforce the strap by winding a nother strip or two of duct tape around the strap.

STEP 8: Done

Now you are done.
Repeat all steps for the back binding.

now you have easaly removable heel straps for your mountainboard.

i used a thick piece of elastic to make my heel straps :3 and made a hole in each side and put the screw through it.

can someone here tell me how to get into mountianboarding, and where to aqcuire a mountan board? I am goofy footed too.

I didn't know anyone mountain boarded anymore. I remember wal-mart used to sell really cheap ones. If they still did I would buy one.

yeah. I actualy remeber the kind your talking about. I dont know where to find it, but theres always the option to buy used

While the obvious reply would be "Then just don't fall..." Aren't these a safety liability, as falling with the board still attached to your feet, as opposed to being able to slip them out quickly, be an issue? I dunno, never mountainboarded... or skateboarded... or snowboarded, so I wouldn't know. I was just assuming that since mountainboarding is kind of a hybrid between skate- and snow-, you'd need the quick dismountability on a skateboard since you wouldn't have the snow to cushion (to an extent) your fall...

You're absolutely right. I have often piled while mountain boarding (a pastime I love but am not good at at all) and have almost as often fallen badly on my ankles because I haven't been able to get my feet out of the straps in time. It's different with a snowboard because it doesn't have the trucks and is, therefore, a good deal lighter. You do tend to have mud, grass or soft dirt (or hard gravel) to soften the fall when MBing, but the real risk is in the ankles, not the backside.

Mountain boards are pretty much a snow-skate hybrid. They were designed by snowboarders who needed somewhere to practice, but didn't have access to snow (I think...). Ironically, here in South Australia, it's almost impossible to find mountain boards. Snowboards are everywhere, even though we don't get snow here (not even in the mountains) and yet you will never find a single sporting goods or surf-and-snow store that sells mountain boards.

Also, the potential response "Then just don't fall" is the response of the ignorant. It's almost impossible not to fall on a mountain board, especially when you're either a complete novice (like me) or a Boarder-X racer (like Moto-X only with mountain boards).
