In this Instructable we will discuss how to get a mugshot off the internet. Before removing your mugshot it is important to determine which website it is on. There are 3 types of websites you will find your mugshot on.

A) For-Profit Mugshot Sites like - Mugshots.com

B) Local News Websites like - TampaBay.com

C) Decoy Sites/For-Profit sites created by reputation management companies (internetreputation.com) like: southerblotter.com, bustedmugshots or springbreakmugshots.com

If your mugshot is on the third type of site your only option is to pay internetreputation.com to remove your picture or bury the mugshot.

Step 1: Removal From Sites in Group A.

Once you have determined what type of site your mugshot is on you can begin the removal process. For the first type of site, we mentioned you have two options. Look for a mugshot removal service or pay the fee to have it removed.

Free Solutions - If you live in Georgia there is a law requiring mugshot sites to take your image down with a written request. Other states with similar legislation pending include NJ, TX, NC, and OR. Florida had similar legislation pending that was eventually shelved.

If you do not live in one of the above-mentioned states you may be able to remove mugshots from google depending on the policy of the website. Reasons that may entitle you to a courtesy removal may include: case dismissal, dropped charges, expungement, not guilty verdict or if you are active military/law enforcement. Be patient and polite when requesting a courtesy removal.

Step 2: Removal From Sites in Group B

If your mugshot is on a site listed in Group B you may be able to easily get your mugshot removed for free with a little diligence and patience. Every news site will have contact information readily available for you. Scroll to the bottom of the site and look for a menu in the footer. That is where you will usually find a menu item for contact info. Send an email to the "online editor"

If you do not hear anything after a week send an email and cc every email address listed on the contact page.

Once again do not act menacing or threaten to sue anybody. They know you won't and you are trying to get a favor.

Please let me know what is needed to remove the page listed below as well as the mugshot image hosted on your server. This image is from 3 years ago and the charge was dropped. I couldn't find anywhere to pay and remove it from the website. Please let me know the process for getting this removed.
