Have a bunch of plants and flowers scattered around a room? This multi-tiered flower and succulent stand helps to organize plants without taking up too much space. Get rid of wood scraps while transforming your space with this simple project!

Supplies

1/2 inch scrap wood
1/8 inch scrap wood
wood glue
varnish (optional)
saw

Step 1: Cut the Wood

From the 1/2 inch-thick wood

front + back pieces

dimensions: 8 inches x 1.5 inches

side pieces

dimensions: 7.5 inches x 0.5 inches

bottom piece

dimensions: 1.5 inches x 0.5 inches

Measure and sketch out the above dimensions on to your 1/2-inch-thick piece of wood. Using a saw, cut the pieces and sand any rough edges and imperfections. You should end up with a front piece, back piece, two side pieces, and a bottom piece.

Step 2: Assembling Your Base

Glue the front and back pieces to the long outside edges of the base. The 1.5 inch sides should line up.
Wait for the glue to dry and make sure the pieces are exactly perpendicular to each other
Glue the two side pieces directly on the top face of the base. These should be stacked on top of the base. These pieces should fit perfectly between the front and back pieces
Wait for the glue to dry
Sand down any uneven edges (some of my pieces were not cut exactly to the same length as shown in the image

Now, you should have a tall, rectangular-prism-like object with a base but no top.

Step 3: Create Shelf #1

From the 1/8-inch-thick wood

front + back pieces

dimensions: 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches

bottom piece

dimensions: 1.5 inches x 1.5 inches

Measure and sketch out the above dimensions onto your 1/8-inch thick piece of wood. Using a saw, cut the pieces and sand any rough edges and imperfections. You should end up with a front piece, a back piece, and a bottom piece.

Glue the front piece directly on top of the edge of the base and the backpiece parallel to the front piece on the opposite edge of the base.

Step 4: Attach Shelf #1

Using wood glue, attach the shelf you created to one side of your large rectangular base piece that you created in steps 1 and 2. Your shelf should only have two sides, so attach one of the "empty" sides to your base. This allows you to slide in any plant from the side. When looking at your current project from the side, there should be an opening in shelf #1 to slide your plant snuggly.

Step 5: Create + Attach Shelf #2

Cut: Cut a 1.5-inch by 1.5-inch piece of wood from your scrap 1/8-inch-thick piece of wood.

Glue: Glue an edge of this square onto the other side of your large piece (not where shelf #1 is).

After doing so, your vase should look similar to the picture above.

Step 6: Add Support

To ensure that your shelves can safely hold heavier objects, you can add supports underneath your shelves!

Cut scrap pieces of your 1/2-inch-thick wood into two right triangles
aim for a triangle with a base and height of around 1 inch
Add wood glue to the base and side of your triangle (not the hypotenuse)
Attach the triangle to the bottom of your shelf and side of your main rectangular piece. Secure and hold this tightly
Repeat the process for the other shelf
