Intro: My Sparkley TMNT (Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtle) Costume!

My little girl is 16 months old, and with comic book loving, cartoon watching, never-gonna-grow-up parents, she couldn't have just that standard pretty pretty princess costume this year for halloween. I made her costume last year and this year was going to be no different. The idea hatched from her father's insistence that she have weapons coupled with my love of glitter and exploded from there.

Several trips to JoAnn fabrics, use of fabric paint, glitter, and acrylic mediums from Jerry's Artarama and my sparkley TMNT (Toddler Mutant Ninja Turtle) was born! I hope you like it as much as I did creating it! Little stinker couldn't get over how much she shimmered and often showed her appreciation by trying to take out my eye with her glitter ninja weapon. In retrospect her father may not have as much say in next year's costume...

I dont understand whede the instructions are to make it?

Hi, I know it's been a really long time since you made this costume but I absolutely love it! My daughter have a party to go to in the theme is TMNT. Do you remember the color and name of the fabric??

I was wondering what the middle is made out of as well as the shell. I LOVE this costume and want to make this for my daughter's 1st birthday party.

I love this costume and would love to make it for my two year granddaughter for Easter. Would you please tell me what pattern you used I would very much appreciate it.

My friends and I are doing an adult version of this! Thanks for the idea :)
Hello I was browsing in search of the perfect Halloween costume for my little girl since all of the ones I've seen are too repetitive and I haven't found anything unique until I came across this one! I fell deeply in love with this costume but I am no good at crafts is there anyway you can sell me one and make my baby one of these pleeaaaasssseee!, lol I know many has asked you if you sell or make these costumes and unfortunately you don't but I'm just in love with this :( and I can't make it lol
is there a how to I need to make this asap!!!
Just saw this comment! Sorry I haven't been on lately. This outfit I kind of just made up on my own. I tried to describe the process as best I can through the picture captions. The bottom is just a double layered circle skirt pattern. The key to making this an easy on and off outfit was the use of velcro. Even the shell was removable through the use of velcro (ideal for traveling in a car seat.) I'd be happy to answer any specific questions you have but unfortunately I never use patterns when sewing (honestly they just confuse the crap outta me.)
Hi there, great costume! My little girl will love this as her older brother will be a ninja turtle too. I think i've kinda figured out the whole costume but I can't quite get how to make the back turtle shell. Can you give me some pointers on what materials i need? thank you!
I cut out an oval of foam and made basically a pillow case oval slip to go oval. I painted it with fabric paint (to give it some stiffness) and then rolled the edges (make sure that the slip is at least 2inches bigger around) sewed them down (to get that shell outer part) and painted them again with the gold color. Lots of glitter was added. If you're not using glitter glue be sure to seal everything with a healthy layer of modge podge on top. Otherwise it'll look like tinkerbell exploded in your house!
Just a quick update everyone, I am super busy this year making costumes for my family (my daughter, her cousin, and my husband and I) but am totally willing to help answer any questions you have about making your own! The fabric I used can actually be found at Joann's fabrics and I definitely suggest checking for coupons before purchasing! (Who doesn't love a good sale?!) The link is below:

Happy crafting guys!
My daughter will love this!! Do u sell or make them?? ot help me out so i cn make one for my daughter...
Id love to make this for my daughter for halloween this year. I do have a few questions though. First you said you used foam for the chest. Can you be a little more specific...did you sew the white fabric around it and then sew it on the green? Also what did you use on the underneath part of the skirt to get it to stand up?
Thanks so much!!
What materials did you use to make this? my 4 year old daughter loves ninja turtles. And they do not have anything for girls anywhere. thanks
I used a thin sheet of foam (similar to the stuff they use to upholster chairs, found in most fabric stores and some super walmarts), glitter, glue, stretch fabric for the front piece, and the green fabric (majority of the outfit) I got lucky and found at JoAnn fabrics last year once their costume fabric came in. I wanted something that had a turtle look but with some sparkle. Oh, and fabric paint. I used just regular white fabric over the foam chest piece and painted it a yellow/gold. For attaching shell and to close the back of the costume I used velcro. Easier to get in and out and fit into her car seat!
is there a how to I need to make this asap!!!
Do you make these for people? Or could I get the how to? I love this for my daughter!
I haven't really put any thought into selling them, at the moment its just a fun hobby I picked up last year. Aside from basing it on the adult ninja turtle outfit in stores I kinda made it up as I went. I'd be happy to answer any questions you had though!
