I live in a small apartment high ceilings and a sleeping loft. I have a big skylight turning south, so most of the year there is a lot of sunlight in the apartment. This gave me the idea to grow different plants in flower boxes hanging from the railing.

We had some spare ceiling planks after renovating a beach house. I decided to use the spare materials in order to recycle as much as possible.

Step 1: Plants and Materials

I found a very cheap planting "start kit" (Fröer) in IKEA.

I have grown found of using Google SketchUp to illustrate my ideas and plans. It is an amazing programme for quick visualization of projekts.

The three sketches show the design and placement of the flower boxes.

The only thing I bought was the bolts and 8 IKEA plant-set. all the rest is recycled. A total amount 315 Kr - 50,02 USD

Step 2: Assembling the Boxes

It is just like in IKEA. One picture at the time :)

Step 3: Planting

In the IKEA plant set there is compressed soil, different kind of seeds and some kind of bag to plant in.

Step 4: My Hanging Garden

The boxes are standing at the bottom of the railingl. I used bolts to fasten the boxes to a piece of wood there is laying across the backside of the railing.

Now there is nothing else but wait for spring. :)
