Introduction: Napkin Holders

About: 18 - Senior - Maker

Made these earlier this month in a weekend.

Step 1: Tools & Materials

Gather the following:

Tools:

  • Sand Paper
  • Paint Brushes
  • 6 Inch Bar Clamps
  • Pencil
  • Scroll, Jigsaw, or Bandsaw

Materials:

  • Wood (I just used some scrap 3/4in. plywood)
  • Acrylic Paint
  • Wood Glue
  • Sharpies
  • A few plastic cups

Step 2: Template

Figure out what design you want your napkin holder to be and then search for clipart. Once you've found clipart scale it to be about 5" x 5". Print and cut it out.

Step 3: Transferring the Template

Trace the template onto your wood.

Step 4: Cutting the Design Out

Cut your design out then repeat it again so you have 2 sides.

Step 5: Cutting the Spacer Block

Take a 3/4in thick strip of wood and cut it down to one 3in x 1.5in block of wood.

Step 6: Sanding

Sand all of your objects and dust them off with a damp rag.

Step 7: Painting

I sketched out the clip art on my wood then painted it. Don't forget to paint the spacer.

Step 8: Touching Up

Now, i'm pretty bad at painting so I had to go back and outline the details with sharpies.

Step 9: Finishing

I forgot to take pictures of this step but all I did was glue the spacer between the walls and clamp it. After that I let it dry and they were finished.

I hope you enjoy making your own! Remember to post a picture of the finished product.

PS. Ignore the screws in the turkey.
