This step-by-step instructable will tell you how to create a nerds costume for yourself and a friend! This is a fun costume not only to wear, but is a fun project to make!

Step 1: Supplies

The supplies you are going to need for this costume are, 2 boxes, paintbrushes of various sizes, a black paint pen, and acrylic paints in the colors: pink, purple, black, white, neon pink, and neon purple.

Step 2: Primer

First you want to paint 1 coat of white paint on all sides of the boxes, this includes the flaps on the top of the box that would normally be folded away. This will act as a primer, making your colors vibrant and hiding any writing on the box.

Step 3: 1st Coat & 2nd Coat

Once your primer is dry, you want to pick which side of the box will be the front of the box (the part that will have the Wonka, and Nerds sign on it.) After you decide that, paint all of the sides of one box pink, and the sides of the other box purple. Remember to avoid the side of the box that you chose to be the front. After the 1st coat of paint dries, paint a 2nd coat of paint on each box, so that the color is opaque, remember avoid the side of the box that is the front.

Step 4: Lay the Boxes Down Flat

Once everything is dry, you want to lay the boxes down flat on a table, with the front side facing upward. To do this one box will overlap the other, just make sure that you can lay the boxes front sides next to each other (because the drawing is going to be split in half between the two boxes.)

Step 5: Draw Out the Words, and Pictures on the Front of the Box.

Take a pencil and get a reference photo of a box of nerds, and draw out the Wonka sign, the Nerds sign, the strawberry and grape signs, and the little nerd animals. This is the most important part! You want to take your time and be detailed! Replicate the nerds box as best as you can.

Step 6: Paint in the Drawing

When you finish drawing out where all the signs will go paint them their appropriate colors. You want to use a reference photo for this so that you remember exactly what color goes where.

Step 7: Pink Polka Dots

After you paint in the front, you want to take your neon pink acrylic paint and paint pink polka dots all over the pink box. The polka dots don't have to be perfect, they need to look like the shape of a nerd candy.

Step 8: Purple Polka Dots

Then take the neon purple acrylic paint and paint purple polka dots all over the purple box.

Step 9: Final Touches

Now you just want to do the final touches, take your black paint pen and outline the nerds animals, the Wonka letters, and the strawberry and grape banners. Then write underneath the Nerds letters "tiny, tangy, crunchy candy".

Step 10: Voila!

Voila! Your Nerds boxes are complete! Now you and your friend just need to dress up in colors that coordinate (or mismatch) your boxes, and put on some nerdy glasses. Now you can enjoy your costume!
