Intro: Nickel Hydrazine Nitrate

This is a simple guide on how to make NHN. Don't do dumb stuff w/ this information, because I won't be responsible.

This compound has the possibility of killing or maiming any individuals involved. So, by doing this experiment you take all responsibility of anything that might go amiss. Thanks for your time, and enjoy. c:

STEP 1: Nickel Nitrate + Alcohol.

First, start by dissolving nickel nitrate in an alcohol, (Ethanol works fine, but you can use Isopropyl alcohol.) Do this in a beaker.

(I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TELL YOU TO WEAR ALL THE NECESSARY SAFETY EQUIPMENT. YOU SHOULD WEAR IT REGARDLESS OF THE EXPERIMENT!)

STEP 2: Hydrazine Hydrate + Alcohol.

Next, take some Hydrazine hydrate (again, in a beaker,) and dissolve it in an alcohol. (The same kind that you dissolved the Nickel Nitrate in.) Make sure it's completely mixed and dissolved in the alcohol. You can make (crude/impure) hydrazine hydrate by combining hydrazine sulfate with sodium hydroxide and collecting the clear aqueous layer. (You can purify by distillation if you feel it's necessary.)

STEP 3: Making the NHN.

Slowly add [Drop-wise] the alcoholic HH solution to the Nic. Nit. solution. You will immediately observe a dense precipitate form where you dripped the HH solution into the nitrate solution. This is our goal, Nickel Hydrazine Nitrate.

After all HH solution has been added, the mix should look pale blue/purple and quite thick.

Gently filter the precipitate, dry it, and store it if you want to. It is heat, shock, and friction sensitive. I've heard that it's sensitivity is somewhere close to TNT, but I doubt this statement.
