Intro: Note & Playing Card Holder

This was meant to just be something that you could set your notes in to view them all but you can also use it as a playing card holder for games.

STEP 1: Tools & Materials

I used quite a few tools but you can still make this if you at least have a chop saw, few clamps and sand paper.

Tools that I used:

  • Chop Saw
  • Table Saw
  • Router
  • Planer
  • Sand Paper
  • Clamps

Wood:

  • Pine from a 2x12
  • Oak
  • Not really sure what the last type was but it had a cool green tinge.

STEP 2: Cutting and Joining the Wood

The end goal of these next 2 steps is to have a block of wood that is 1 1/2" thick x 1 3/4" wide x 10 1/2" long. So if you would like to you could just get a piece of scrap wood and cut it to those dimensions, I however decided to mix it up a bit.

My design went like this:

  1. Oak (1/4" thick)
  2. Green (1/8" thick)
  3. Pink Pine (3/4" thick)
  4. Green (1/8" thick)
  5. Oak (1/4" thick)

Once you have your wood cut lay your design out, then glue and clamp it.

STEP 3: Rough Cuts and Sanding

Cut a little less than a 1/2" off of each end then sand or plane the top, bottom and sides.

STEP 4: Adding the Angled Notches

Didn't take pictures for this step but all I did was angle my table saw blade to 20 degrees and make 3 cuts in the block.

STEP 5: Sanding & Finshing

I used a router and rounded the front edge then proceeded to sand it. To finish it I just used cutting board oil since that's all I had.

Later I decided to drill a small hole in the back big enough for a 1/4" dowel to sit in just incase someone wanted to stand taller paper up in it.
