Introduction: Olight Magnetic Connector to Usb-c Mod !

Hi! Who doesn't hate proprietary connectors? Upon first sight MCC magnetic conectors seem practical but it's really not compensating for the fact that you have to carry around ONE MORE CABLE in your backpack! Not to mention the added chance of forgetting it at home during a trip and finding yourself with a useless dead torch...
So in the interest of carrying a single universal cable around for all uses here is a mod:

Supplies

- An olight MCC cable (if you only have one think about it twice!).

- A female usb-c, € 0,67 https://a.aliexpress.com/_uidF5E


Tools:

- Soldering iron

- 3D printer (or other means of making a small cassing, a big blob of hot glue even)

Step 1: Open Up the MCC Connector and De-solder the Two Cable Leads

Not much to say here... The awfully blue colored cap is just clipped onto the cheap plastic red base. Carefully pop them apart with something sharp.
The cable has two fat solder points (take note of the positive, red, and negative, black). Desolder it cleanly.

Step 2: Solder the Usb-c Port in Place

I used two tiny scrap strips of metal to connect the port to the board, tiny wires would work fine. Of course positive goes to positive and negative to negative. Make sure your solder joints are strong since you are going to fold those strips/wires.
I insulated everything with small pieces of electrical tape and folded the usb over so that it lays flat on the board and the port is accessible from the side.

Step 3: Cap It Off

I modeled and 3D printed a cap for the connector with holes for the led indicators and it fits perfectly. I used a tiny amount of super glue to keep it secured.
You can use my model or make your own. In a rush you could cover the entire thing with a big blob of hot glue...
