Introduction: One Length Haircut Tutorial

Sometimes cutting hair can be a struggle. The most important step is knowing how to use the RIGHT tools and techniques. While using kitchen scissors to cut hair is most common for an at-home DIY, they can really mess up the haircut.

haircuts must be demonstrated when taking some state board of Cosmetology exams to become a licensed hairdresser.

This Instructable will build your confidence and skill by following all safety procedures suggested.

Supplies

  • Shears
  • 3 clips
  • styling comb

You will need the shears to cut the hair, you need the clips to help part the hair, and the comb to section, brush, and get the hair straight to cut it.

Step 1: Practice Before Getting Started

STOP! First, practice opening and closing the shears before you start cutting. Hold the shears as demonstrated in the video with your thumb and ring finger in the holes of the shears and your pinky relaxed on the pinky rest; after doing that a few times, try to safely palm your shears by taking your thumb out of the hole and making a fist.

After practicing with only the shears, add a comb, as demonstrated in the 2nd video.

Disclaimer: You must practice and become comfortable with the shears before cutting.

Step 2: Part the Hair at the Apex

Once you feel comfortable working with the shears, make a section at the apex (the highest point of the head). Make this section on both sides of the head from the apex to the ear.

Step 3: Part the Hair Into 3 Sections

After parting the hair at the apex on both sides of the head, drop down a layer from the back section and pull up the rest.

Step 4: Cut the Hair

Once you have made your first cut and get it to the length you want, you will see a guideline in the image.

A guideline is a section of hair that has already been cut. You use that hair section to ensure you get the haircut even.

Use your guideline to continue the haircut.

Step 5: Drop Down the Apex Section

After cutting all the hair in the back of the head, drop down a section from the side and pull up the rest.

Step 6: Cut the Apex Section

Now finish the haircut by cutting the hair on the sides. Use your guideline to help you get an even cut. Your guideline will be hair from the back section. Just line it up with the side sections.

Step 7: Finish the Haircut and Style How You Like

Once you have learned and practiced safety how to do a haircut, you will give everyone a fresh new look!

I hope this Instructable helped you and taught you something.

Have fun, and be careful WITHOUT the kitchen scissors!
