Introduction: Outdoor Side Table

Intro: The goal for this project was to build something using recycled materials that would otherwise be thrown out. We found a wooden sample and wood tree stakes and decided to build an outdoor side table.

Supplies:

  • Four tree stakes
  • Four wood screws (2 1/2 inch)
  • Outdoor spray paint
  • Sample wood panel for gates
  • Wood glue
  • Wood putty
  • Sand paper

Tools:

  • Drill
  • Saw
  • Level
  • Pencil
  • Measuring tape

Step 1: Measure and Cut

Miter saw and Wooden Tree Stakes

1. Set saw to 10 degrees

Cut wooden stakes at 10 degrees

2. Use measuring tape to measure stakes -- mark stakes at 20 inches with pencil

3. Set saw to 0 degrees Cut at 20 inch pencil mark

Remeasure to confirm stakes are 20 inches long

Step 2: Paint Table Top

1. Follow instructions on spray paint can

2. Paint first coat, allow to dry

3. Paint second coat

Step 3: Drill and Glue

1. Measure the radius of the tree stakes (1 ⅛ inches)

2. Mark four X’s on the topside of the wood panel in each of the four corners

3. Each mark should be 1 ⅛ inch from the the two edges of each corner

4. Apply wood glue to edge of stake that is cut at 10 degrees

5. Hold stake on the bottom side of the panel so it is flush with both edges of each corner -- drill a screw at the X through and through the panel and into the stake

6. Repeat for each of the next three corners

Step 4: Wood Putty

Open the wood putty and sue a putty knife to apply it over the screws so it is flush with the wood -- let dry

Step 5: Sand Paper

1. Allow for glue and wood putty to dry

2. Use sandpaper and sand down the top and legs of the table

3. Wipe clean

Step 6: Final Coat of Paint

1. Touch up paint the top of the table

2. Allow to dry

3. Enjoy table!
