Intro: Owl Mug

Hello, in this instructable I'll instruct to make a Owl Mug with a epoxy glue and a Old Mug you've in house.

STEP 1: The Mug

At first step, you'll need:
- Mug (I used a color salmon mug )
- Epoxy glue (How I live in Brazil, here we usually use the Durepoxy, it's solid and is good for this type of aplication, but I belive it can be use Sugru)
- Sandpaper (The mug may be somewhat slick for joining the glue, so I sanded it, but just enough to get a rough surface)
- Alcohool (I don't posted the photo but I used to clean the mug)

I covered all outside of the mug with the epoxy glue layer, not too thick, enough to mold it after.

STEP 2: Making the Owl

After coat it, I used the head of a screwdriver to shape what will be the penalties Owl.

I marked where it'll be placed eyes with the screwdriver.
After, I molded the epoxy glue to form the eyes, eyebrows, nose / beak, body, legs and wings.
All parts were made with the aid of tools with rounded tips, fine tips, spheres and anything else that could help shape the parts of the owl.

After all the parts ready and fixed  the mug, let dry for 24 hours and then continue working on the mug.

STEP 3:

The next day, after the glue has dried, I started painting step.

First I spent a brown oil paint across the mug. Let dry for about 4 hours, then I put the same paint mixed with a bit of bitumen for darkens it and I spent in parts like chest, wings, eyes.
I added a little more bitumen until well dark and I spent in the eyes, beak, and feathers on the tips of the nails.

The mug was totally dry two days later :)

--Just beautiful! I thought it was ceramic at first. Now I want to get the kiln repaired!

can it be used for drinking tea or coffee or it's merely for display? is it safe to wash?

Yes, you can use to hot drinks and wash normally, no problem! Over time, the painting goes wearing a bit, but nothing to worry.

Oi! Qual é a marca da tinta que você usou?
Eu usei tinta óleo da Coral :)
