Introduction: Owl Pops

About: In a valiant attempt to keep myself from dying of boredom, I create.
I followed Bakerella (http://www.bakerella.com/) for quite a few years.  I thought cake pops were fun, but much more work than I was willing to do.  So I only did them for very special occasions.  The special occasion this time was that I had a 24 hour period all to myself, the house was clean and I had want I needed on hand, and Scoochmaroo said “anything sweet on a stick”.   Since it the "birding" time of the year, here is how to make an Owl Pop.

Step 1:

Supplies:
Oreo cookies
M&M’s
Chocolate melts (had some left over chocolate for running a chocolate fountain so that is what I used)
Mini Oreo cookies
Sucker sticks
Spoon
Microwave
Toothpick
Foil or waxed paper

Step 2:

Melt the chocolate melts according to package directions.  I stuck mine in the microwave for 60 seconds and stirred.  It was totally melted.  Dip the sucker stick in the melted chocolate and then stick it between the layers of the Oreo cookie.

Step 3:

Lay the cookie on the stick on the foil.  Let the melted chocolate set until hard, to speed this up you can put in the fridge for 10 minutes.

Step 4:

While the sticks are setting, separate the mini Oreo’s so that the white cream filling is all on one side.  (Just twist and pull apart.) You will need 2 for each Owl you want to make.  Take one left brown half (one for each Owl)

Step 5:

and break it in half. This will be for the feathers above the eyes. (Eat the other half so it won’t be lonely.)  Pick out one yellow or orange M&M for the beak of each bird.

Step 6:

Dip the cookie on the stick into the melted chocolate.  Let as much drip off as possible.  Lay it on the foil.

Step 7:

Quickly add the mini Oreo halves for the eyes, white side up.  Add the M&M, on edge, for the beak and the brown Oreo halves for the feathers over the eyes.

Step 8:

Dip a toothpick in the melted chocolate and let some chocolate drip off for the pupil of the eye.  Let set out on the counter until the chocolate totally sets.  This may take as much as an hour.  If you want, put the Owl Pops into the fridge for a quick set up (15 minutes).

Step 9:

Wise and cute.  Enjoy!
