Introduction: PAPER MASQUERADE

About: I'm a Multi-media Artist. Pursuing Film Production. Especially passionate about the art department of film productions. I just want to create.
I am so glad i stumbled across this innovative platform.

This is my first instructable
(And if it helps, when reading imagine J lo's voice)

Someone once asked me, if you could get an unlimited supply of any one thing; what would it be?
I often ponder on this,

But so far the Answer has always been the same:

PAPER

The amount of intricate detailing, fascinating 3d structural aspects or designs that can be done out of a flat sheet is limitless.
And then you get colour, texture, printed, ladden with glitter and sparkle; there's just no stopping you.
IMAGINATION is the key........ There's just no limit.

Go paper cray !!!

Step 1: VISUALIZE IT

Think to yourself what is it gonna be?
Sketch it; Sketch multiple explorations; be creative; have fun.

Step 2: IT'S DECIDING TIME

Give it dimensions according to your model (meet akshada: 12 years old),

And decide on material and colour palette according to your finalized Sketch.

I'm going with the design i sketched just a few days before....i never thought that I'd be doing it so soon.... So on the Sketch i just wrote ONE DAY.... I'm so glad that day came soon :-)

Step 3: MATERIALS

Gather the tools required
And get set go:-

1. Paper lots and lots of paper according to your colour selection and theme.
2. Drawing pencils and a scale.
3. Cutter and a pair of scissor.
4. Craft Glue, glue gun, stapler and pins.
5. Sparkling glitter.
6. Decorational pearls and rhinestones.
7. More paper ;-)
8. Measuring tape.
9. Lace or ribbon and ball chain.
10. Paper tape.

Step 4: BASIC LAYOUT

According to your dress design
Prepare a paper base for the inside which will hold all the parts together

My first attempt was to make a paper cage but it didn't turn out quite that well (image 1: what not to do) .
so i scrapped that and taped textured paper together to make a large piece and cut it in a layout of skirt and again taped everything to make a skirt (image 2: that's perfect)

Step 5: CUT, STAPLE, REPEAT

First draw a unit model.
This is the one I'm working with,
I required 90 Unit models to go all the way around the bottom.
Cut, staple and repeat.
These units are going to make the skirt in layers like petals of a Rose.
Keep them aside while we do the rest of the detailings.

NOTE:
PLUG IN SOME ELLIE GOULDING (music)
cuz it's gonna take some time.

Step 6: THE BODICE

Let's make the upper portion of the dress
Material?? You guessed it; PAPER
;-)
Take measurements of your model
Make a demo layout of bodice from newspaper
Make the necessary adjustments
Then finalize it. I kind of just played around with it and tried two bodice patterns
And chose the adjusted fitted one.
Go with your design.

Step 7: THE NECKLINE

My design has a halter type neckline which i want decorated like a necklace.
I used rhinestones, large pearl halves and drop beads.

Step 8: THE REDDEST OF ROSES

Cut 6 circles in decreasing sizes.
Fold each in halve three times.
Cut each in a nice curve to form petals.
Open them up.
Cut segments to have 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2(remainder of 5 petals) ,1(remainder of 6 petals) number of petals respectively.
Stick them to form cones.
Curl their petals.
Stick all layers together to form a Rose.
Add a pearl in each to finish off the look.

Repeat in size of your choice and choice of your colours.

Note: time consuming.
Plug in some SELENA GOMEZ (music)

Step 9: THE SPARKLING MONARCH'S

Take coloured papers, Fold in half
On half side Draw the butterfly Outline.
Cut using a pair of scissors to form a silhouette of butterfly.
Then Sketch the intricate detailing.
Hand cut them to form a netted design using a cutter.

Apply glue to the end portions of the wings or as much as you want..... bathe them in glitter i.e sprinkle glitter over glue. Tap to remove excess. Let dry on a book kept open at an incline to give 3d shape.

Soooooo mesmerizing

WE ARE GOING TO KEEP ONE BEAUTIFUL BUTTERFLY ASIDE FOR LATER USE ON A SURPRISE ELEMENT I HAVE IN STORE FOR YOU GUYS !!!!!!!

Note: time consuming
Plug in some TROYE SIVAN (music)

Step 10: THE SPIRAL ROSES

Cut circles according to size of your choice.
Using a pair of scissors keep rotating the circle while cutting to form a spiral and stop at the end to keep a circular portion, this will be used as the back to glue the Rose.
Pinch the beginning edge and roll while squeezing till you reach the end portion. Then release to let it expand a little.
Stick to the end using glue.
Let dry... You might need to apply a little pressure for a while until it starts to dry and hold in place.
Finish off with a off-white or bronze pearl in the centre.

Repeat in various sizes and colours.

Step 11: THE SURPRISE

I have always been one for dramatic flair, but what is a masquerade without a MASK
Surprise!!!!!

Take rough measurements for your Mask,
And Sketch the design.
Cut a rough prototype and trim as needed.
Cut the edges of the nose and stick using tape to form a protruding or 3d nose,
then when your happy with the outcome stencil it on glitter paper.
Cut it and paste on the paper prototype from earlier to get the 3d form.
Cut out the shape of eyes.

Decorate the mask:-
I used a stone chain to form lower linning of the eye, a black 3d outliner to form the upper lining with a cat eye and to give it a kajal look and a pair of fake eyelashes for increased drama.
I added three golden ball chains using masking tape to hold them in place and glue to stick them to the mask
I ended up tying the 3 of them to give a double curve. And on the other side a ribbon with golden pearls.

On either ends poke a hole and pass a ribbon through and tie a knot.

And finally i topped it off with the butterfly we set aside in step 9.

Step 12: THE ASSEMBLY

Bippity boppity boo !!!

Bring out the big guns; the glue gun and glue on all the parts together onto the basic layout to form a beautiful magical paper dress.

Step 13: ADMIRE THE RESULT

Have a fun photoshoot to commemorate your feat:~
