Introduction: PVinnCeridoo: "snake-like" Folded PVC Djinngeridoo

Hello DIYers,

Today I'll show you I how built a "snake-like" PVC Djinngeridoo


Note: Just added a sample sound today (14 sept 11), my teacher and famous player
           "Raphaël Didjaman" was kind enough to try this "toy" instrument and allow me
           to record him while playing.
           Please notice that it's "for fun" and is way under Raph's sounds when he blows
           in the "real thing" (Didgeridoo that he shapes from a Eucalyptus wood trunk).

1. "Bill of Materials"

- 1   x  "PVC Glue" jar (250ml)
- 1   x  PVC "Sink-end asymmetric Elbow shape " (32mm diameter)
- 11 x  PVC "Elbow shape Male/Female " (87°30, 32mm diameter)
- 1   x  PVC "Excentred reducer Male/Female " (50mm to 32mm diameter)
- 4   x  PVC "Elbow shape Male/Female " (87°30, 50mm diameter)
- 1   x  PVC "Excentred reducer Male/Female " (100mm to 50mm diameter)

2. Assembly Guide

Step A. Assemble PVC parts "without gluing still ", to get a grasp of the final shape ,
             then take a picture of it for future reference.

Step B. Start with the PVC "Sink-end asymmetric Elbow shape ", this part will be the
              Didgeridoo's "mouthpiece ". You will connect this mouthpiece with one of  
              the "32mm Elbow Male/Female ".

              Now get ready to make your first joint :

   B.1. Preparing the Joint
          - Choose the right angle between the "Male " and "Female " parts (at the beginning
            the "Male " part is the "Sink-end asymmetric Elbow shape " (32mm diameter)
            while the "Female " part is the "Female " end of the "32mm Elbow Male/Female "

          - Draw "position linemarks " (with unerasable marker like those used to write on
            CD/DVD) on each side of the joint to make sure that desired angle will be obtained
            be when gluing the 2 parts

   B.2. Drawing "position linemarks": I advise to draw 4 or 5 line marks around the joint:
           - each line being parallel to the joint axis and linking each side of the joint.
           - on 2 neighbour lines, add 2 dots in the same axis than the line (1 dot on each part
             of the joint), this is crucial as it will allow to avoid "mismatch" when lines are 
             evenly separated around the jointure...

           As you would likely model a sequence of multiple parts in one time then draw all
           the "position linemarks
and numerotate each part of the sequence

    B.3. Gluing your first joint : use the "plastic brush " included in the "PVC Glue jar "
            - quickly brush each part of the joint then assemble
            - turn quickly the latest part to match the linemarks
            - use your thumb or tissue to remove excess glue by "sliding circularily around
               the joint".

            Now wait 1 Hour before gluing the next joint ...

    B.4. After each joint is added check the Pitch by blowing in the PVinnCeridoo , this
            allows to add more or less "Elbows " depending on the final Pitch that you want
            for the finished instrument

Step C. Repeat step B with the remaining 10 "32 mm Elbows ", shape the instrument as
               you like, just remember to draw "position linemarks" like explained in B.2


              ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
              Also try to fold the "snake" so that latest parts touches previous ones
              (due to folding).

              Important !! These "self connect spots" are crucial to solidify the instrument 
                                    and reduce risk of breakage while manipulating / transporting
                                    the instrument


              To materialize these "self connect spots " add big "glue beads " on the outside
              (you may need to do it in 2 or 3 passes, as the glue retracts and leaves
              unaesthetic holes)

              Note: before building the instrument I was worrying that these "mechanical
                         fold connections" would alter the resonnance but it doesnt seems
                         to be the case
              ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Step D. Glue the "Excentred Reducer Male/Female " (50mm to 32mm)

Step E. Like Step B. but with "50mm Elbows Male/Female " instead

Step F. Glue the "Excentred Reducer   Male/Female" (100mm to 50mm).
             This last part is the "Bell " (like the end part of a Dginngeridoo or Trumpet)

                   Now enjoy your brand new custom "PVinnCeridoo"
                         Each one will be unique I'm pretty sure !!
